Castleblayney Notes

By Mary McEneaney Sat 12th Jul

Seniors The official holiday period is now over and so games commence again this week with fixtures for all teams:

County Monaghan Credit Union SFL: Scotstown v Faughs, Sunday 13th July, 2pm

Platinum Tanks Reserve League: Faughs v Cremartin, Wednesday 9th July, 8pm

U21 League: Carrickmacross v Faughs, Friday 11th July, 8pm

McElvaney Recycling Minor League: Aughnamullen v Faughs, Tuesday 8th July, 7.30pm

U16 Boys Last Thursday the Faughs U16’s travelled to Killeevan for their first game after the exam break. Due to injuries and holidays, they travelled with the bare minimum. The result was in doubt right up to the end, and with 5 minutes to go, the Faughs trailed by 5 points. However, two goals in quick succession from Josh Walsh and Francis McGeough sealed a great victory during which the team showed true Faughs grit and determination. Excellent performances on the evening from all the players, with special mention to Mark Connor, Jack Callan and Ben McNee, secured two valuable points. Credit to a brave Killeevan team who had some very strong players, but were just piped at the finishing post. The team togged out for the first time this year without Evan Comiskey, who was sorely missed, and all the team and Management wish him every good wish in his recovery.

Next game is on Thursday 17th away to Clones.

U16 Girls The girls completed their league program against Sean mc Demott’s last week. The girls produced sometimes excellent football at times but finally went down to a more clinical Sean’s side. Next up for the girls will be the championship we are awaiting confirmation of opposition and date.

U14 Boys The lads have had a bit of a break from competitive games however training has been stepped up in preparation for the Championship Final. This will be the U14s next game, taking place on Wednesday 16th July, 7.30pm in Tyholland where they will meet Sean McDermotts. Put the date in your diaries and come out to support the lads.

U14 Girls We are still awaiting the draw for the U14 Championship.

U12 Boys The U12 Dev team had a tough game at home to Killeevan on Saturday last. The game was tied the whole way through, with our Faughs securing the points at the end. Final score Faughs 5-11 Killeevan 5-9. Unfortunately due to players being on holidays the U12 Senior team had to concede their match against Donaghmoyne. Next up for the teams are games on Saturday 19th July. 12pm Latton v Development Team. 112pm Senior Team v Inniskeen.

U10 Girls The young U10 girls had a good game against Doohamlet this week. They put in a very impressive performance and displayed a very good array of skill, determination and score taking.

Muckno Mania Faughs Sports Day Saturday sees what has now become a fixture of the Muckno Mania Calendar, the Faughs Sports Day. The Sports Day takes place in St. Marys Park, starting at 3.30pm. The teddy bears picnic takes place before hand at 2.30pm. Everyone is very welcome for a fun filled evening.

Summer Camp The McMahons Centra Faughs Summer Camp takes place on the 13th-16th August. Application forms for the camp will be available at training over the coming weeks and also in McMahons Centra & Supervalu. We ask that you return the forms as soon as possible to help us plan for what promises to be an action packed Camp.

Best of Luck We would like to wish our Faughs Festival Queen, Ms Chloe Liddy O’Connor all the very best as she represents the Club in the Muckno Mania Festival Queen Competition. Chloe is a very active and valuable member of our Club, and we are delighted that she agreed to represent us at the Festival – we hope she has a fun filled week.

WE would also like to wish the Muckno Mania Committee all the best as they make their last preparations for what promises to be an action packed weekend, with events to suit everyone. The weekend is something we as a Club always look forward to and we ask everyone to support all the events taking place over the weekend.

Ulster Final Congratulations to our County Senior team on their Semi Final win against Armagh. All roads now lead to Clones for what should be an exciting Ulster Final against Donegal. We wish the players and management all the best in their preparation for the final.

Hard luck to the Monaghan Ladies who despite a gallant effort could not overcome Armagh in the Ladies Ulster Final.
