Castleblayney Notes

By Mary McEneaney Tue 1st Jul

Holiday Period We are in the official Monaghan County GAA holiday period and therefore all senior competitions have come to a halt to give players some well deserved rest. The holidays continue to July 7th with our teams first games as follows:

County Monaghan Credit Union SFL: Scotstown v Faughs, Sunday 13th July, 2pm

Platinum Tanks Reserve League: Faughs v Cremartin, Wednesday 9th July, 8pm

U21 League: Carrickmacross v Faughs, Friday 11th July, 8pm

McElvaney Recycling Minor League: Aughnamullen v Faughs, Tuesday 8th July, 7.30pm

U16 Boys The lads’ fixture against Tyholland last week was postponed due to the County Minor Football game. So this Thursday see the lads return to action after the long break with an away fixture to Killeevan at 7.30pm.

U16 Girls Next league fixture is away to Sean Mc Dermotts on Thursday 3rd July at 7pm.

U14 Boys Last Saturday saw the lads take part in the Ulster Provincial Feile. The lads won their first three games convinced to progress to the Semis. Unfortunately despite showing great skill and determination, the Final was not to be with the lads missing out after a 1 point defeat. Huge Congratulations to the whole team and their management for being chosen to take part in the Feile. The U14s next game is an away fixture to Latton on July 12th, 12pm. The Championship Final has also been confirmed for July 16th, 7.30pm, Tyholland – put the date in your diaries and come out to support the lads.

U14 Girls We are still awaiting the draw for the U14 Championship.

U12 Boys The U12 boys had a quiet week with just their normal training sessions. Saturday sees both teams compete at home. 12pm Dev Team v Killeevan. 1.15pm Senior Team v Donaghmoyne.

U12 Girls The U12 Girls had a busy few days with two away games against Aghabog and Eire Og. On Tuesday evening the girls traveled to Aghabog, and put in an excellent display. The young Faughs girls displayed some excellent skills and teamwork and proved to be worthy winners. Molly Harte had a good game in Goals, while outfield there was notable performances from Mallaigh Duffy, Aine Mc Glynn, Sarah Wilson and Aoibheann McCooey. Then on Thursday the young girls traveled to Eire Og. The first half was an extremely close and competitive affair with just the bare minimum separating the sides at half time. Early in the second half the Eire Og girls opened up a good lead. However, these young Faughs girls never give in, and battled back bravely, with just a single score separating the sides at the final whistle. This was a very exciting and entertaining game of football, with both teams displaying some excellent defensive and attacking play.

Go Games St.Marys Park plays host to U8 Go Games on Saturday morning, 9.30am – promises to be a fun morning for all involved.

Cul Camp – With the summer holidays just around the corner this only means one thing, the Kellogg’s Cúl Camps are back in town. The camp will take place in Castleblayney on Monday 7th of July and run until Friday the 11th. Application forms have been sent out around all the local primary schools as well at Juvenile training. For any enquiries please contact County Coaching Development Officer Paul O Connor on 086 837 4827 or developmentmanager.monaghan@gaa.ie

Lotto The lotto is a little late this week, with the draw taking place tonight. Results will be available on twitter & Facebook. Best of lucky to everyone in next weeks’ draw and many thanks for your continued support.

Best of Luck We would like to wish our County Senior the best of luck as they meet Armagh in the Ulster Semi Replay – hopefully the team will come out on top, and will see all head to Clones for the provincial decider on July 20th. Best of luck also to the Monaghan Ladies who meet Armagh in the Senior Ulster Final.
