Feile: HIstory was made last weekend when an Under 14 team from our club played in the National Feile Competition for the first time. This will be a weekend which will live long in the memory and the experience that was gathered by the team, mentors and all the large contingent of supporters will be something that will probably be never be forgotton. Anyway onto the weekend Aughnamullen first game was against Tubercurry(Sligo) on the Friday evening and the lads produced a very good performance where they won on a scorline of 6-09 to 0-05 to start the competition in some style. The next game was against a very physical South London Squad and our lads gave a good account of themselves but went down by a couple of scores on a scoreline of 1-08 to 1-04. That evening the lads were introduced to their hosts families in Ardnaree and on Saturday morning played the host club Ardnaree and came away with a good win on a scorleine of 2-10 to 0-05 to set up a Quarter Final appearnce against Killoe( Longford)where they produced a superb win on a scoreline of 4-06 to 0-05 to the delight of all their supporters. On Sunday morning they played Tuam( Galway) and again produced their best perfomance of the weekend when they defeated the Galway side on a scoreline of 3-07 to 1-07 to set up a final date against old nemesis South London on Sunday afternoon. In the final itself they played exceptionally well but as the old adage states goals wins games and the English outfit ran out winners on a scoreline of 3-02 to 0-08. Although not winning silverware these squad of players were not only a credit to our parish but to our county as well and it was a pleasure to be there to see these players giving their all. Also thanks to the management team of Brian Duffy, Joe Duffy, Gene Duffy and First Aid Person Philomena Duffy who had this team is such great shape.
