Junior Championship Replay: Scotstown were narrowly beaten in this Junior Championship replay after another tight match against league leaders Killanny. There first quarter was evenly contested, with both teams swapping points. Efforts from Elliott Maguire, Cian Mohan, Ruairi Sheehan & Ryan Caulfield as Killanny shaded things in the closing minutes of the first half, building up a two point advantage at the break, 0-6 to 0-4. Scotstown were level again within two minutes of the restart, with scores from Maguire and Sheehan. Killanny had the better of things for the next ten minutes, but converted frees from Gerard McCrudden (2), and Cian Mohan kept Scotstown in touch, and they were just a point behind in the closing minutes. U14DIV 5 Championship: Our U14s made a great come back to win the U14 football championship DIV5 final against Carrick Last Thursday. The match had been played in four quarters and our young lads didn’t expect the start Carrick got in the 1st quarter, when they conceded a goal after 20 seconds, followed by a second goal two minutes later, however Darragh Murray registered the opening point for Scotstown , Shane McCluskey hit 1-1 and by the 12th minute Lorcan Deery hit over a point to leave a single point between the sides at 2-1 to 1-3 in favour of Carrick. Just when Scotstown had made some strides they suffered another setback conceding two more quick goals but a Lorcan goal at the end of 1st quarter left them trailing by 4-3 to 2-3. Our young lads had a great 2nd quarter with Shane McCluskey and Killian McKenna getting opening scores, Carrick replied with two points, then a strong finish resulted in Darragh Murray points, two goals through Shane and Oisin Mulligan, Carrick responded with a fifth goal as 2nd quarter ended at 4-8 to 5-6, with Killian McKenna tapping over a quick free. The sides were level in the 1st minute of the 3rd quarter through Niall Corrigan point, Carrick went in front again on 3mins but Scotstown took control in the remainder of the 3rd quarter with Shane scoring his 3rd goal, Darragh & Niall getting points as this quarter ended with Scotstown in front by 5-11 to 5-7. In the final quarter Carrick reduced the deficit but again Lorcan was on form to score another goal and a point with other points to follow from Darragh to put them six in ahead. Carrick never gave up , when they scored their sixth goal, but the final minutes of the last quarter Shane and Lorcan were on target with two more goals for the team as the contest end on a final score of 8-14 to 6-11. We had fine performances from the whole team where goalkeeper Conor Caulfield was alert to everything and made an important save in the 3rd quarter. The backline of Cathal Meehan, Fearghal Keenan, and Rory McKenna stood out at different stages, injury to Michael Meehan after 5mins made way for Killian McKenna who created problems for Carrick as did Oisin Mulligan & Lorcan Deery who played a captains role. Darragh, Shane and Niall were in top form with their scoring. Credit to the management team of Mark Hand, Rory Beggan, Cian Mohan & Adrian Carbin on guiding this young team their success. Team: Conor Caulfield, Cathal Meehan, Rory McKenna, Caolan McKenna, Michael Meehan, Oisin Mulligan (1-0), Lorcan Deery (3-1), Fearghal Keenan, Darragh Murray (0-6), Niall Corrigan (0-2), Shane Mc Cluskey (4-2) Subs: John Clifford, Jamie Treanor, Dillon Rhatigan, Gavin McKenna, John Campbell, Paul McPhillips, Matthew Rice, Killian McKenna (0-2), Michael Connolly.
