Ballybay are still top of the County Monaghan Credit Unions Senior Football League after they edged a thrilling game away to Truagh on Saturday. Ballybay led by three points at half-time, but found themselves trailing by five ten minutes into the second half, after Niall Rooney, Christopher McKenna and Christopher McAnenly scored goals for Truagh. Ballybay finished strongly, however, as Christopher McGuinness converted a penalty and added a couple of late points to win it. Scotstown and Clontibret are still second and third respectively after a narrow win over Magheracloone and a walkover from Currin. Goals by Conor Gurn and Dermot Malone gave Castleblayney a one-point win over Monaghan Harps, which leaves the Faughs fourth, while Latton found the Doohamlet net four times in the second half to move off the bottom of the table.
Carrickmacross, who had gone seven games unbeaten since losing their first Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League game of the year against Tyholland, saw their run ended by the same opposition on Saturday. Tyholland led for most of the game and although a Seán Downey goal brought Carrick back into it late on, Declan Connolly’s point secured victory for the north-Monaghan men. Donaghmoyne are now level with neighbours Carrick at the top after three first-half goals gave them a platform to hold out in a tight finish away to Clones, while there was another close end in Threemilehouse, where Inniskeen edged a high-scoring game to move up to third and end Seán McDermotts’ run of three consecutive wins. Cremartin are off the bottom after Kevin McVicar’s accuracy helped them to a comfortable victory in Rockcorry.
Aughnamullen closed the gap on Eurotech Junior Football League leaders Killanny to a point with a five-point win over Aghabog on Saturday, while a Ciarán Courtney goal helped Blackhill defeat Éire Óg and move clear in fourth. Oram overtook Aghabog at the foot of the table with a six-goal defeat of Killeevan.
Truagh had a convincing win over Carrickmacross in the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling League on Thursday, while Castleblayney won a high-scoring game against Clontibret and Monaghan Harps conceded to Inniskeen.
Magheracloone got a first win of the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A at the expense of Latton on Wednesday, while Aughnamullen continued their unbeaten Division Two run at home to Corduff.
