Hurling
We split the county into 2 regions, North & South. In both regions the top players qualified for the county final. In total 7 players earned their place in the final and they were Cian Maguire (Clara NS), Christopher Flood (Deravoy NS), Carl Mc Meel (Deravoy NS), Eanna Sherry (Annyalla NS), Conor Brennan (Annyalla NS), Iain Kindlon (Broomfield NS) & Caeleb Mc Ardle (Broomfield NS).
The finals were held in Clontibret on the Friday 20th June. From comparing the results from the previous week we could see that all the participants have practiced and hopefully they will continue to practice. After a tight competition the top 2 were level on points and had to be separated by time. With only 3 seconds between them Chirstopher Flood came first and Carl Mc Meel came second. Both of the boys coming from Deravoy NS. In 3rd Place was Cian Maguire from Clara NS.
Football
Just like the hurling, the football skills competition was split into two regions the north and the south. Each school picked two players to attend the regional blitz. Their was a high standard on show in both regions with the top 4 from each region going onto the county final. The finalist were Killian Carragher (Annyalla), Leo Maloney (Annyalla), Thomas McMahon (Broomfield), Darragh Sherry (Corracrin), Michael Hamill (Corracrin), Darragh Quigley (Killeevan) and Aaron Treanor (Clara).
The finals were held in conjunction with the hurling finals in Clontibret on Friday the 26th of June. The standard of skill on show was very high with very little separating all the participants in the end. Leo Maloney (Annyalla) came away with the top prize having scored 70 points out of 80. Killian Carragher made sure Annyalla finished first and second with a fine display. Thomas McMahon (Broomfield) completed the top three.
Thanks to all the schools for taking part all the teachers who completed the original tests in their schools to find their two representatives. We would also like to thank Emyvale and St Joesphs Carrickmacross for the use of their facilities for the regional competition & Clontibret GAA for the use of their pitch for the county final.
Well done to all involved and Monaghan Coaching and Games would like to wish all students a brilliant summer.
