Castleblayney Notes

By Mary McEneaney Tue 17th Jun

The Big Breakfast – The Club held their breakfast morning last Sunday the 15th of June in Iontas between 9am and 12pm. The morning started slowly but it wasn’t long before the army of helpers were flat to the mat dishing out some great Ulster fry’s to the large crowd. The morning was a great success on all fronts,  money raised, people fed and lots of people just sitting down to have a good old chat. Well done to the all the people involved, and a big thank you to Keith Shortt Butchers, Brendan McMahon, Joe Bishop and McMahon’s Supervalu and all our sponsors.  The club would also like to extend a very special word of thanks to Iontas and Patsy for all her help and assistance.

Senior team – This weekend see the Senior team entertain Traugh, with the County team progressing on Sunday, this match will be a Star game.  It is fixed for Friday at 8.00pm, with the boys in fourth place on nine points, a win would be very welcome.

The Reserve Team –The boys played Traugh in the Semi Final of the O’Duffy Cup last Friday evening, a good win by 13 points now see us advance to the final where we will meet the winners of either Clontibret or Scotstown. The lads have a home game against Emyvale on Wednesday night at 8pm (Check result on Website).

Under 14 Boys  – Last Thursday night saw the Under 14 team play an away Championship Semi Final in Ballybay.  The previous encounters were always tough matches and this game proved no different but the young Faughs got out the blocks well and at the end of the first quarter they were four points to the good. In the second quarter they started to play some very good football with the forward movement causing Ballybay lots of issues. As the game wore on, Blayney got more in control and by the end of the game they had ran out comfortable winners. Best on the night was Josh Mone, Gearoid Coyle and Francis McGeough. Final Score Ballybay 1- 13 Blayney 8-13. The boys return to league action this week when they travel to Donaghmoyne this Thursday evening at 7.30pm.

Under 12  Boys– The Senior Under 12 team played Monaghan Harps away last Saturday evening, after a strong first quarter in which the boys scored four goals they led by two points.  They started the last quarter brightly and stretched their lead to four points before two goals for the Harps edged them in front. The last seven or eight minutes saw the Monaghan Harps team get on top and add on a few points to run out worthy winners by eight points. Best on the day for the Senior Team where Conor McCooey in goals, Finon Kelly in defence and Cilian Hanratty up front. The development team played Aghabog in their opening game in Division 3 A and in a very strong opening, the team played some very good football.  They had movement all over the field and played the traditional Faughs give and go game to great effect. Best on the day for the development team were Pauric Bolger at the back, Ryan Mc Kiernan in midfield and Thomas Hughes up front. The Boys play Carrick away on Tuesday 17th of July with the development team throw in at 6.30pm while the Senior team start at 7.45pm.

Under 8 Boys – The boys have Go Games in Cloghan this Saturday with a throw in time of 9.30am.  On Thursday evening we travel to Magherclone for another blitz, we will inform parents of travel times via the text system.

Juvenile Training – Parents please note that training on a Thursday night for the Under 10, Under 8 and Under 6 has moved to St Marys Park, same time as normal. Can we also ask the parents to mark in Saturday morning from 10am to 11.15am for training for the Under 8 and Under 10’s right throughout the summer.

Cul Camp – With the summer holidays just around the corner this only means one thing, the Kellogg’s Cúl Camps are back in town. The camp will take place in Castleblayney on Monday 7th of July and run until Friday the 11th. Application forms have been sent out around all the local primary schools  as well at Juvenile training. For enquiries please contact County Coaching Development Officer Paul O’Connor on 086 837 4827 or developmentmanager.monaghan@gaa.ie

Lotto – There was no winner of this weeks’ jackpot which now stands at €4000.  The numbers drawn this week were 01, 04, 12 and 25.  Congratulations to the two lucky dips winners of €50 each, Margaret Brady, Cairde and Carol-Ann Connon, Meath Hill.  Best of lucky to everyone in next weeks’ draw and many thanks for your continued support.

Well done – The County Senior team got their defence off to a solid started with a much deserved if somewhat nervy win over Tyrone. On the County’s last win over Tyrone in the Ulster Final of 1988, a right corner forward called Nudie Hughes scored the decisive goal into the town goals, this time it was another great Faughs corner forward called Dermot Malone who got the vital goal in the same goals. Next up is a tough encounter against a resurgent Armagh on Saturday 28th of June at 7pm. Well done lads keep it going.
