Clontibret          1 -11

Castleblayney   1 -5

Clontibret dominated the opening first round of the  12 – a side Development  League  when they hosted  near neighbours Castleblayney in the first match of the Season which took place on Wednesday evening last The competition which is on a trial basis to facilitate weaker clubs seen  some younger players make an impressive debut.

The saffron’s were quick off the mark when Muireann Atkinson, Nicola Morgan and Michelle Morgan took their chances to put their side three points up without reply. Kate Deasy opened the Castleblayney scores when she converted a free in the 12th minute but Clontibret clawed further ahead when   Katie Mc. Nally replied with a point three minutes later.

Castleblayney moved up a gear but missed valuable chances when Jessica Cullen’s shot for goal was saved by the Clontibret keeper and later Kate Deasy ‘s free fell short of the crossbar, Deasy was on target in the ensuing minute when she converted a free and a talented Orlaith Maguire split the posts to leave her side trailing by a point.

Muireann Atkinson who was on song for Clontibret stretched the lead once again when she lobbed one over the bar and Michaela Mc. Ginn followed up with another in the 26th minute. Elaine Mc. Kernan shot to the net for Blayney a minute later and Roisin Mc. Kenna converted a ’45 in the closing stages of the first half to put them in the lead.

Scores were hard to come by as Blayney tried effortlessly from the throw in of the second half but it was Clontibret who took control when Michelle Morgan seen her side advance into the lead as she dropped in a goal from an ensuing free and Nicola Morgan followed up with a point 4 minutes later. Roisin Mc. Kenna converted a free for Blayney in the 11th minute which was to be their only score of the half. Clontibret cruised to victory with a brace of points from Nicola Morgan .  Sinead Mohan put one over to finish their scoring in the 20th minute

Blayney who came good at this point of the game, had a chance to equalise in the dying stages when Elaine mc Kernan’s aim at goal was saved  by the Clontibret  keeper and she saved the day a minute later when she warded off a penalty taken by Roisin Mc. Kenna.

Ulster Camogie Finals Regional Blitz

A Regional U12 and U10 Camogie Blitz is being organised for Sunday 1st June to help celebrate the Ulster Camogie Provincial finals in Newry. The venue will be Killeavy Camogie Club, Newry.

All U12 and U10 Camogie Club teams  are being invited to attend this blitz and then participate in the celebrations during the Ulster Camogie Finals in Pairc Esler, Newry.
