Killanny Notes

Juniors
We played Oram in the junior league on Wednesday last and had an emphatic win on a scoreline of 2g 15p 0g 7p. While Oram were without their star forward who togged out for New York on the Sunday previous against Mayo, so  we wouldn’t be reading  much into this scoreline as there is never much between these two teams any time we meet.
Juniors
Cill Eanna 15p
Eire Og 10p
Seven of our players got on the score board in the junior league game against Eire Og played in wintry conditions in Pairc Eanna on Sunday last. While Eire Og were first to register with a point from a free but Michael Vernon was quick to respond followed by a point from Andrew Kieran who had a goal at his mercy. With the return of Tiernan Duffy to midfield we got  great possession and fed our forwards who were not afraid to have a go. The half time score was 9 points to 6. At the restart Eire Og were again first to register with a point from a free but Stephie upped his game and scored 2 from play in the fourth and fifth minute. We kept our nose in front for the remainder of the game and with two excellent saves from our custodian Declan McGlew we had five points to spare at the final whistle.

Under 12
Our u12’s suffered their first defeat of the year when they lost out by a single point to Aughnamullen in a very competitive contest played at pairc Eanna on Sunday past. Playing with the wind in the first half Killanny failed to make the most of the chances that came their way and trailed at the break by 2 points. At the start of the second half Aughnamullen extended their lead to 4 points, Killanny at this stage took control of the game and fought back to go two points ahead with 5 minutes left to play. However Aughnamullen were not to be denied and finished strongly to win by a  point. The Killanny team will know that it was simple mistakes and indiscipline that cost us on the day. We have the Spring league finals in 2 weeks time and the Summer league still to look foward to.
