Great to see our former club stalwartLonan Maguire tog out for New York against All Ireland Finalists Mayo last week. A one sided affair it was still wonderful to see Lonan togging out for New York again this year. A precocious talent when he was at home it’s superb to see that he’s still enjoying his football and anyone who seen Tony over the weekend could see the great pride he’s brought to his family and the club. Continued success to Lonan and we send our best regards to all the Clones lads in New York, Boston and indeed all our followers stateside.
Darkness into Light there was very many of our members supporting this event in Monaghan and Cavan at the weekend. In what were inclement conditions the atmosphere was hugely positive and jovial and the number of people who attended both events was massive. Congratulations to the organisers on two very well run events.
Seniors: Clones earned two more league points at the expense of Sean McDermotts in St Tiarnach’s Park last Wednesday. Having lost out to Carrickmacross the previous Friday, Clones were anxious to get back to winning ways. They started in blistering fashion and looked set for a comfortable victory. This was the proverbial game of two halves, however, and while Clones were on top in the first period Seans were the better team in the second. The Clones lads fought hard to come out on top, though, finishing strongly to win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-12.
Minors’: St.Tiarnachs played Toome on Tuesday of two weeks ago in Clones and from the first whistle to the last it was the complete performance, with exceptional performances from 1 to 15. Half Time we led by 3:09 to 1:02. Two goals from James MacElwain along with a host of other stand out performances, left a final score of St.Tiarnachs 7:17 to 3:07. Another good win against Cremartin on Tuesday last week with an impressive score again put up by St.Tiarnachs, FT Cremartin 3:09 St.Tiarnachs 3:16, the lads played at home on Tuesday where they played table toppers Truagh. Training continues as normal with a report on our game against Truagh next week.
U-16s First team play Toome at home this evening with the B team taking on Latton, best of luck to both teams. Support the lads if you’re free, there’s some great footballers on these teams that are surely our stars of the future.
U14’s another close game against Aghabog on Monday last seen this Killeevan amalgamated team involved in a nine goal thriller, despite being on the losing side this didn’t take away form an enjoyable game and the team is improving all the time and enjoying their football. They play Oram this coming Saturday in Oram and we wish them well and encourage the parents to come out and support the team.
U12’s last Saturday seen the end of the spring league with both teams equipping themselves very well. Our Currin amalgamation enjoyed their football and there are some very bright shining lights for the future. The spring league finals will take place on Saturday week the 24th in Cloghan. Mol na h’oige agus tiocfaish siad. There’ll be summer games for the teams when the championship gets under way.
Birthday Greetings this week in a change of roles we raise a flag for Alan Alford who reached the big 60 last week. A devout supporter and member of the executive Alan works tirelessly for the club. Many happy returns Alan.
