May 7th, 2014

Pride of Place: Pride of Place this week must surely be the Under 14 Panel who last Saturday created history when they won they Under 14 Division 1 Championship Final when they beat a gallant Carrickmacross outfit on a scoreline of 3-22 to 1-13. This was the first time any Aughnamullen side has ever won a County Division Title and great credit is extended to the team and its mentors. Anyway a brief summary of the game is as follows: In a tight opening quarter both teams were playing great football with the scores level on a number of occasions with our scores coming from Jack Mc Brien, Darren Geoghegan, Shane Forde and Tiernan Duffy but a goal from Captain Darren Geoghegan after good work from Martin Sheridan and other scores from Tiernan Duffy, Jason Duffy and Ryan Connolly left us 10 points up at the break on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-07.
Into the second half Carrick started strongly with a couple of early scores but a brilliant individual goal by the afforementioned Jack Mc Brien left us 12 ahead after that. This was followed by more scores by Tiernan Duffy and Shane Forde. Although Carrick scored a goal of their own a brilliant goal by Aaron Mc Gee left us well clear in the final quarter. this was followed up by scores by Martin Sheridan, Kieran Marron and Ryan Connolly left us winners in the end to the jubiliation of the large crowd in attendance. This was an exceptional performance from start to finish starting with  Adam Blanche in goal who produced a number of fine saves the full back line of Oisin Hamill, Jay Marron and Kieran Duffy never put a foot wrong,  the half back line of Joel Wilson, Kieran Marron and Sean Hamill were tenatious in their defending and helped out in attack The Mid field partnership of Shane Forde and Aaron Mc Gee were supreme but the cream of the crop was upfront with masterful displays from Tiernan Duffy,Ryan Connolly, Jason Duffy, Martin Sheridan, Jack Mc Brien and Darren Geoghegan were outstanding. A number of substitutes were introduced and they included Killian Mc Geough, Cillian Mc Connell, James Hannaway, Ryan Johnston, Gavin Bannigan, Aaron Hamilton and Liam Duffy. Also the mentors of Brian Duffy, Gene Duffy, Joe Duffy and John Sheridan who had this team as well coached as any team the club has ever produced and also the First Aid Person Philomena Duffy.as well.
