Seniors

Our adult squad put in a gritty second half performance and got off the mark to register their first league point at home on Saturday evening last. They held out for a well merited draw in this entertaining and close intermediate football league encounter. Little separated the sides in the opening period the visitors holding a one point advantage at the interval; Seans 0-5 Tyholland 0-6. The home side’s cause was not helped early in the second half when reduced to fourteen, and to add to their woes influential midfielder Derek Mc Mahon was forced to retire with a leg injury. Tyholland seized the initiative and put our defence under the cosh for much of the second half. The visitors built up a five point cushion as the game entered the final ten minutes. Tyholland’s goal coming following a movement the full length of the field after a Sean’s goal bound effort had been denied only by the brilliance of the Tyholland keeper. Sean’s tenacity and work rate however were rewarded when Damien Larkin gave the in form net minder no chance from the penalty spot. The same player was on hand a few minutes later to raise a second green flag and put his side into the lead with time nearly up. Tyholland with virtually the last kick of the game tied things up converting a 20 metre free, Seans 2-07 Tyholland 1-10.

Minor Team

Our game last Tuesday week was against a combination of Aghabog/Currin.(Patrick-Emmets) both teams were well matched and it was very well refereed by Xavier Coyle. The Seans were  leading by a point at half time following two early first half goals by Dara Bell along with points from Aidan Ward and  Niall Kearns. The away team came out very strong in the second half and managed to pull away a 9 point lead. The back line Ryan Connolly  Rian Mc Entee, Aaron Mc Nally and Shane Kelly had their hands full with the Aghabog forwards. Enda Connolly had a brilliant game at centre half back & set up endless attacks. Niall Murphy also worked hard and linked in with Niall Kearns & Dara Bell at midfield. Up front Dylan Mc Nally added a point, Paddy Mc Cabe and Matthew Mc Guirk also cleared up a lot of breaking balls. Aidan Ward continued to torment the away team and scored some vital points, he moved out to midfield and his long range shooting put the away team under pressure. Ryan Hughes and our “Real Madrid” forward Daniel de Marcos played their part when they came on to play. Adam O Driscoll saved the game in the end with 2 last minute goals which left the result  a draw at 4-11 to 4-11. It was a game that should have been won and hopefully with a little more composure this team can improve. Their commitment to training is excellent and hopefully we will start to see the results of this in the next few matches.

U-12’s

‘U.12 panel put in a great performance against Eire Og in Smithboro last Saturday with a convincing win in a high scoring game.  All encouraged to keep up the great effort in training and the games ahead.
