By Mary McEneaney Wed 9th Apr

Spring is in the air:  Now that Spring has sprung and the evenings are longer there is a great buzz around the Corduff pitches from one end of the week to another. Competitive action has begun in earnest for both codes, Men and Ladies whether it be the youngest member participating in a Go Game or a Senior player playing in Legaue Football they’re all up and running. So we encourage you to come out and support these teams as they are all putting in serious commitment and deserve support. See below for upcoming matches.

U16’s Division 1 League campaign got off to a winning start at home against St Patricks on Thursday April 3rd. The Round 2 fixture against Magheracloone will throw in at 6.30 on Thursday April 10th in Corduff.

Minors:

Last week the Minor team got their League campaign off the ground with a win by beating Inniskeen  in the first round of The Elvaney Minor Football League . This was a hard fought game going down to the wire with Corduff winning by a point. On Tuesday they played Castleblayney at home and next Tuesday 15th April they are away to Tyholland so good luck in all these encounters.

Seniors: Competitive action heats up over the next few weeks with 2 fixtures per week. Round 2 of The Monaghan Electric Intermediate Football League is at home this Saturday evening at 6pm when Corduff host Donaghmoyne. As local derbies go this should be a good one.   On the  following Wednesday April 16th Corduff host Inniskeen at 7:15 pm and then on Easter Sunday they’re away to Cremartin at 2pm. Once again we urge people to come out to these matches and get behind your team.

Reserves:The Reserves were in action against our neighbours in Carrickmacross last Saturday . They were narrowly defeated on the day.

Congratulations To the Monaghan Senior team , The Management and in particular clubman Padraic Keenan on qualifying for the Division 2 Final and also on being promoted to the top flight Division 1 for the 2015 season. All roads lead to Croke Park on April 27th.

Ladies:

U14 / U16: Corduff have no competitive action at these levels this week. Next Thursday 17th April Corduff U14s host Sean McDermotts.

Minors: Last Thursday Corduff Minors were at home to Eire Og. The match started off even with both sides trading points in the 1st minute. Then Eire Og went ahead and dominated the first quarter . However a gutsy performance by Corduff brought them back into the game and both teams were even at the interval. The second half opened well for Corduff with a goal from Aoibheann Farrelly  which was to be the only score for Corduff in the 2nd half. Corduff had to play deep in defence with Keely Culleton pulling off some great saves in goals. Eire Og continued to register scores finishing comfortable winners but well done to Corduff Ladies on their first match of the season.

Seniors: The Senior Ladies are in action tomorrow evening Friday away to Latton at 6:45 pm. This is an important League match with both teams aiming to add more points on the League table. Then on Easter Sunday the Seniors are in action at home to Scotstown at 2pm . As always we encourage people to come and show your support for the team.

Congratulations to the Monaghan Senior Ladies, the Management and club member Barbara Ward on reaching the All-Ireland Division 1 League semi final against Dublin. Barbara was busy last week not only by winning the All-Ireland with the College but by also being chosen as Player of the match! Well done Barbara, great achievement.
