County Success: Comhghairdeas mór to Fintan Kelly and the County seniors on achieving promotion from Division 2 with a victory over Galway on Sunday. Fintan managed to get on the score sheet to really have the bragging rights over his dad and prod Galway man Tom this week. A salivating showdown with Donegal in CrokePark is up next in a repeat of last years Ulster final. A similar result to last July will do very nicely, well done lads and continued success.
Easter Camps: are being organised for 5 to 12 year olds over the Easter break, this was a phenomenal success last year and Clones had the largest numbers in the whole county. Seniors: training continues every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. There continues to be strong numbers at training and the competition for places on the team is fierce. Our next game is a home fixture against Cremartin on the 12th of April, throw-in 7pm. Support the lads especially at home.
Reserves: following a draw with Blackhill the lads secured their first victory against neighbours Currin in the Division 3 reserve football league on Saturday evening last, on a score-line of 3-09 to 0-06. Shaun Cunningham 1-05, Cian O Connor 1-02, Ben Daly 1-01, Martin Slowey 0-01, were the scorers. Good overall performances from everyone, with Ben Daly, Shaun Cunningham, Cian O Connor and John McDonald leading the way. Team: Doda, Dylan Hibbitt, Ciaran Kelly, Ben Daly, Ethan Audley, Daragh Graham, John McDonald, Ross Adamson, Kevin Reilly, Martin Slowey, Kevin Reilly, Shaun Cunningham, Emmet McEntee. All six subs were used and did well when introduced. Our Next Game is away to Killanny on Wednesday April 23rd.
U21’s hard luck to David Freeman and the Monaghan U21’s who succumbed to Ulster Champions Cavan on Wednesday night. The club U21’s continue to train with the seniors, there are no competitive games until July, challenge games are being organised currently by their mentor Daragh Holland.
Minors’ training continues this Thursday and last years Division 3 double champions are playing their first game against Clontibret on the 8th April.
U16’s The U16 Division 3 team got their league campaign of to a flying start with a comprehensive win over a very young Doohamlet team. The team started with conviction and had the game well in control leading 3:06 to 0:01 after 20 minutes with goals from Evan Mulvaney and Dan McAloon. Further points from Dan Connolly, Cameron Dowds and Dec Og McKernan continued the Clones dominance. Another three goals before half time left Clones well ahead leading 6:10 to 1:01. The second half continued in the same vain, Clones scoring another 2:13, the goals from Dec Og and Fabian Beggan and good points from Cameron Dowds, James Cleary and David McCabe. Final Score: Clones 8:23 – Doohamlet 1:04. Under14’s training continues every Tuesday in Killeevan. The Under 14 team won their first league match at home to Toome on Saturday in a very tight game played in Killeevan. The final score line was 3:08 to 3:04. Under12’s training continues this Saturday. Under 8’s &Under 10’s training started last Wednesday 2nd April in the big field from 6-7. There was an unbelievable turnout on what was a damp cold evening with a total of 58 children, there’ll be 70 this week if it’s a good evening. A note to all players and parents that mouth-guards are now compulsory for all matches and training, they’re as important as the boots so na dearna sibh dearmad (Don’t Forget).
Club DVD: Recently at the dinner dance we launched the DVD “5 CountyTitles and an All Ireland Success”, which commemorates the fantastic achievements of last season. These are available from Joanne for €15 each or two for €20.
