Monaghan’s senior footballers kept their bid for promotion from Division Two of the Allianz National Football League on track with a double-scores win away to Armagh on Saturday, while the Under-21s booked a place in the semi-finals of the Cadbury’s Ulster U-21 Football Championship when they battled past Down on Wednesday (see reports). The county’s senior hurlers saw their winning run in the Allianz National Hurling League Division 3A come to a crashing end with a heavy defeat against Donegal in Letterkenny on Sunday.

 

Clontibret cruised to victory against Monaghan Harps in the only first-round game to go ahead in the Silver Hill Foods Development Hurling League on Saturday, while Inniskeen and Cootehill conceded to Castleblayney and Carrickmacross.

 

Scotstown were too strong for Latton in the only fixture in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 1A on Sunday, while there were wins in Division 1B for Cremartin and Castleblayney at the expense of Ballybay and Tyholland respectively. Seán McDermotts, Éire Óg, Donaghmoyne and Rockcorry saw off Oram, Carrickmacross, Doohamlet and Corduff in Division Two, while Aughnamullen got a walkover from Inniskeen. Blackhill, Currin, Truagh and Toome defeated Monaghan Harps, Emyvale, Killanny and Clones in Division Three, with Aghabog conceding to Clontibret.

 

Our Lady’s, Castleblayney saw their bid for an All-Ireland Colleges title end with a semi-final defeat against Ardee CS in Inniskeen on Saturday.

 

Meanwhile, Inniskeen booked their place in the Quinn’s Corner Ulster Club Intermediate Football League Final when they ground out a one-point semi-final win away to Urney from Tyrone on Sunday.
