Senior Team – The Senior Team’s opening league game against Truagh last weekend was postponed and our opening Senior League fixture will now take place on Saturday the 12th of April at 7pm. This will be a historical occasion as we will open our new 2,000 seater stand to the public for a Senior League game for the first time, we will play the current county champions Scotsown , a fixture that both clubs look forward to each year.
Reserve Team – The reserve team will be looking to build on their recent good performance against Tyholland when they take to the pitch in Emyvale on Sunday at 12.00 noon. Emyvale will provide the opposition and are no doubt in good form after their recent run in the Junior All Ireland Championship and their opening Intermediate win last weekend. Hopefully the return to training on grass over the last couple of weeks will see further improvement for the Faughs lads.
Minor – The minor team fixtures have been issued during the week, the first fixture is against Emerald Sardfields at home in St Marys Park on the 1st of April at 6.45pm.
Under 16 Team – The under 16 team are training away under the watchful eye of Tom Miller and Aidan Boyd and while the group are low on numbers the sessions have been well attended .The lads played a good challenge match last Sunday evening in advance of our first competitive game which will be an away trip to Tyholland on Thursday 3rd of April.
Under 14 Boys – Last Saturday morning, the boys under 14 team opened their 2014 season with an away match in a very wet and windy Pearse Park, Ballybay. With the aid of the gale in the first quarter, the young Blayney lads played some nice direct football and after the opening 15 minutes had built up an 8 point lead. Blayney started the second quarter very slowly and Ballybay had the ball in the back of the net before the Faughs boys had realised the game had restarted. This goal give the boys in maroon and white a great lift, and within a few minutes they had levelled the match. The third quarter provided some really quality football from both sides in the wintry conditions with Blayney seizing the initiative when Conall McHugh finished the ball to the back of the net from a move that started with the Faughs Goalkeeper Declan Hughes. At the start of the fourth quarter one could only wonder if the five point lead against a fierce wind, would be enough to secure the opening win of the season, but this team showed their skill, determination and commitment as they pushed on to win by twelve points. There were some very solid performances led by Declan Hughes, Rory Mc Glynn, Stephen Beattie, Conor Devlin and Craig Callan. Well done boys, let’s get back working hard at training this week.
Under 14 Girls – The young Blayney ladies had a very useful challenge match against Truagh on Sunday afternoon, this was the first time that the girls had played on grass this year, so as expected their touch was a bit off in the first half but as the game progressed they showed the huge improvements that they have made in the twelve months since they first came together. The management team were happy with the performance, with Eleanor Doyle, Erin Brady, Nicole Maguire and Lisa Rooney all showing up very well. Training continues as normal this week, with our opening fixture against Latton to be confirmed in the next few days.
Under 12 – The boys had a useful challenge game on Saturday with all players getting some valuable game time. This Saturday they return to action when both teams travel away to Inniskeen, the development team throw in is at 12pm while the Senior Under 12 team get into action at 1.15pm. Both team are improving and looking forward to a good match on Saturday. Travel arrangements will be communicated during the week.
