Reserve Team – The reserve team got their first win of the season with a good away victory over Tyholland on Saturday evening. With a full squad to select from Ray McArdle and Bart McNamara put their best fifteen out on the pitch. Last week’s game on grass proved very beneficial with the first touch showing a big improvement. Best on the day for the reserve team where Eimhin Farrell, Francis Moore and Damien Hughes. Next game for the lads will be a home match on Sunday lunchtime, 30th of March against Emyvale.
Under 12 Development Team – Last Saturday the under 12 development teams kick off their season with a home tie against an understrength Carrickmarcoss. This young Faughs team is made up of players from the Under 11 grade and the Under 10 Grade. The work over the winter time showed great dividends with the team settling down early and kicking some nice scores. The second half saw the Faughs continue to move the ball impressively. When the final whistle had gone the Faughs had run out worthy winners. Best for the Development team were Paudie Heavin, Shane Morris, Pauric Bolger and Jodie McQuillan. The next game for the Under 12 Development team is an away game against Inniskeen on March 29th at 12pm.
Under 12 Senior Team – The Senior Under 12 also got their year off the mark with a very hard earned victory over a big Carrick side. With the breeze at their backs in the first half, the young Blayney team lead by 5 points at half time. Carrick came out of the starting blocks very quickly in the second half and mid-way through half led by one point. This Blayney team like all the Clubs Juvenile Teams have great determination, and with Senan O’Brien leading the defence, Conor Mulligan and Conall Mc Hugh started to get on top in midfield and a great score by Caleb McArdle pushed the Faughs back in front. On the kick out Ian Kindlon won a good ball which he passed to Conor Mulligan who knocked it over the bar for a two point victory. Best on the day for the Senior Team was Ian Kindlon, Senan O’Brien and Conor Mulligan. The next game for the Senior Under 12 game is an away against Inniskeen at 1.15pm, lots of practice will be required over the next two weeks.
Under 14 – The Boys under 14 team will open their season with an away fixture versus Ballybay with throw in at 12pm.The lads have a number of good training sessions behind them and are looking forward to getting their season started under Mark O’Connor, Dessie McAuley and Martin Carville.
Juvenile Training – Huge numbers again last week , with lots of young boys and girls making great progress on their basic skills. Just a reminder to all parents that all Children are required to wear their mouth Guards and that all children pay the €2 to cover the cost of the training facilities. Thank you.
New Stand – Friday saw another milestone as Doohamlet Construction moved off the site of the clubs new 2,000 covered seated stand. With some cleaning and tidying work still outstanding, it won’t be long before patrons are enjoying the views from such a comfortable modern Spectator stand. Well done to all the field development committee on their great work, Keep up the good work, we’re nearly there.
Healthy Club – St. Patricks Day saw the club receive special recognition for participating in the pilot scheme of the Healthy Club Project, on All Ireland Club Finals day in Croke Park. The GAA, at a national level, have been extremely supportive of the Clubs continued progress of their promotion of a Healthier lifestyle for their members. More new initiatives will be developed during the year.
Hard Luck – Last Saturday saw Our Lady’s Secondary School bow out at the All Ireland Semi Final stage of their Colleges games, a stronger Ardee side now advance to the All-Ireland Final, while the Blayney lads on the panel return to the Club in preparation for their Minor Campaign.
Easter Camp – Monaghan Coaching and Games Development will be running their annual 3-Day Easter Camp for both boys & girls between the 22nd and 24th of April. This year the camp will be in Ballybay, Pearse Brothers’ Football Grounds. Application forms will be sent home with each child from school, to avoid disappointment please return your application forms to Paul O’Connor on or before the Thursday the 17th of April.
