Throughout the month of March Monaghan Coaching and Games will be running a series of workshops that will target club coaches for all grades and levels.
Workshops
This series get underway this coming Thursday night (6th March) for U6-8 club coaches in the Patrician High School, Carrickmacross and Sean McDermotts, Threemilehouse. The workshop runs between 7:30 – 9:30 in Carrickmacross while please note the workshop in Threemilehouse starts at 7:00 and finishes at 9:00.The workshop will cover a wide range of topics which include: Long Term Player Pathway (focus on ages 6-8), Gaelic Start Programme, FUNdamentals and Skill Development through Games and the Whole Part Whole training method.
The following week the workshop will target U10 – 12 club coaches. The venues and starting times remain the same (Patrician 7:30 – 9:30, Sean McDermotts 7:00 – 9:00) but the content will be different. Topics covered in this workshop include: Long Term Player Pathway (focus on ages 9-12), Warm Up activities, Games and Tactical Development and finally Technical Skill Development through the Whole Part Whole training method.
We are currently working on finding a date to run an U14 Club Coaches Workshop which will be scheduled in the near future, so keep an eye out for this.
During the month of June (exam period) there will be a series of workshops which will target club U16 coaches. Details of this will follow.
Coaching Courses
Foundation
Over the next month Monaghan Coaching and Games will be running a number of coaching courses. On Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th of March Cloghan will be the venue for a Foundation Award in either Football or Hurling. Monaghan Harps are hosting a Foundation Award on Friday the 21st and Saturday the 22nd of March but it is currently fully booked up. There is limited spaces available in the course in Cloghan so If you would like to complete the Foundation Level Award then please get in contact with Paul O’Connor on 0868374827 or you can email him on developmentmanager.monaghan@gaa.ie. Alternatively if you contact your clubs Coaching Officer and they should be able to help you out.
Level One
There is a Level One Children’s Award in football scheduled to take place on Friday the 28th and Saturday the 29th of March in Cloghan. If you would like to register of this award please get in contact with Paul O’Connor (details above). To complete the Level One award you must have completed the Foundation Award in or before 2013.
