Secondary Schools Senior Hurling competition 04/02/14

Monaghan coaching and games development organised an Internal Secondary Schools Senior Hurling competition which took place on Tuesday 4th February. Played on an excellent morning weather wise, we had six schools taking part and nine teams in total. The six schools were St Macartans, Ballybay Community College, Inver College, Castleblayney College, Patrician High School and Our Lady’s Castleblayney. Some great hurling was played over the course of the morning and everyone who took part seemed to really enjoy it.
After the group stages we had our semi-final pairings. They were Our Lady`s Castleblayney V St Macartans and Patrician High School V Castleblayney College. After two evenly contested games both Patrician and Our Lady`s progressed to the final. The final was nip and tuck affair with the teams level at halftime. With the wind at their backs Patrician pushed on and won by a single point.
Patrician will now progress to play the Cavan and Fermanagh champions in South Ulster Secondary School Senior Hurling Championship which will take place next Friday the 14th February.
Monaghan Coaching and Games would like to thank all the schools, teachers and players for taking part in the competition. We have planned to run a similar competition for 1st & 2nd years which will take place on Friday 14th March in Cloghan and again the winners will progress to play in South Ulster Secondary School Junior Hurling Championship on Fri 21st March.
