Rockcorry Notes

By Majella Boyd Tue 11th Feb

Congratulations

First of all, on behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our heartiest congratulations to Truagh GAA on achieving their ultimate goal and winning the IFC All Ireland title last Sunday. Undoubtedly, reading the Twitter updates during the match, it appeared to have been a free-flowing and highly entertaining encounter and once again a massive well done on your fantastic achievement.

COP-ON, BE STRONG… JUST SAY “NO”

In recent weeks, we have seen and heard a lot of talk with regards to the social media online drinking game called ‘Neknomination’ which sadly has been linked to a couple of tragic deaths. I would appeal to all our young members, players and supporters to refrain from promoting, encouraging or taking part in this sick and stupid craze. On behalf of the club I would urge all our senior players to show a good example to the young members of the club and indeed within our community and at all times advise them to BE STRONG and JUST SAY “NO” and stay away from these dangerous and senseless pranks. Please be careful with Alcohol and please, please, please if you do take a drink – Drink Responsible!

Social Night & Annual Presentations

Our annual social & presentation night will be held in Fitzpatrick’s on Friday 28th February. This is always a very enjoyable occasion and this year’s social night will once again be something special as it brings us all together to honour the latest inductee into our Hall of Fame and the night will also include presentations to the senior and reserve players of the year. So folks, make sure you don’t miss out on this enjoyable occasion and make a note in your dairy for Friday 28th February and join us for an exciting and fun night.

All committee members and players are reminded and encouraged to enter the GAA National Club Draw at least a couple of times themselves and to really push the tickets this week in order to sell as many books as possible to help our fund raising target. This is an important fund raiser and it’s crucial that we ALL sell our allocation of tickets because funds raised will be retained by the club

Parish Concert

Rehearsals are now in full flow with a lot of the acts practicing their routines for the upcoming Parish Variety Concert which will take place on Sunday 16th March in St. Mary’s Hall. We all know that our parish is blessed with plenty of talent and colourful characters ranging from individual solo singers, ballad groups, dancers, musicians, actors, comedians and so the challenge now is for all groups and interested people to come together to put on an amazing fun show packed full of entertainment. Speaking to a number of people recently there seems to be a preconceived notion that you have to be “invited” to take part in the concert – this is not the case and I can confirm it is open to everyone and anyone that is willing to do something and take part. If you need help or advice on putting together an act for the concert please get in touch with a Briege Brannigan or Thomas McCormick and they will point you in the right direction. We want to put on a memorable and spectacular show that we can all be proud of so please do not let the Parish down and come out and support it.
