Monaghan Camogie

By Majella Boyd Tue 4th Feb

County Camogie Chairperson Gary Carville opened the February County Board which was held in the Westenra Hotel Monaghan on Monday evening last by welcoming Ulster Council Administrator, Ciaran Kearney. Outgoing Regional Development Officer, Ger Gribben and  his newly appointed replacement for this area, Lisa Mc. Aliskey together with the Executive and Club Delegates.

With Just four camogie clubs and struggling in Monaghan, the Ulster representatives were more than helpful in lining out plans to encourage existing and foster new clubs in the County.

A suggestion that two of the stronger clubs namely, Castleblayney and Clontibret who both have been winners of the Ulster Junior Camogie Club Championship in the past two years and can boast participation at all levels in Monaghan and Armagh, would name a second string of players at the next meeting who could participate in a nine a side Shield  Championship. This would facilitate Inniskeen and Truagh who are struggling to field at Senior level.

Clontibret and Castleblayney would then compete against each other for the Senior Championship title. Both of these clubs would enter two 9 –a-side teams in the League to compete against Inniskeen and Truagh.

Another suggestion outlined how a  7 -a – side Blitz be organised at the beginning of the playing season to include teams from other Counties.

Lisa Mc. Aliskey Regional Development Officer gave an outline on some of the Coaching courses which she would be undertaking for foundation level coaching, whereby a coaching course with an underage team would be held in a central club in the County and potential coaches could go along to learn the skills of coaching underage camogie.
