HARPS HANDBALL
Most of our representatives in the Ulster Championships suffered defeat last week leaving just the doubles still to be played. Those who fell at the semifinal stages included Louise Mc Ginnity, Conor Mc Donnell, Martin Mc Entee and Terry Mc Elvaney. Added to this, our two Novice 4 players, Seamus Mc Kenna and Mark Treanor, bowed out of the county championships.
It was left to our youngest players to restore some pride following great displays in the Cumann na mBunscol county competition. In superb form was Eoghan Mc Ginnity who conceded no points in an emphatic display in the Under 13 division final. He was accompanied in the winners enclosure by fellow club mates Jakub Szkup and Deivydas Kaklauskas. Tiernan O’Rourke was pushed all the way in the Under 11 final while Louise Mc Ginnity, Gabriela Minskimaite and Megija Kulite all progressed to the Ulster finals to be held in Donegal. In superb form in Under 11 doubles was the pairing of Seán Callan and Ailandas Jocys.
The Ulster Juvenile semifinals take place in Kingscourt and Gortnamona, Belfast,on February 23rd. The main aim is for as many Monaghan players as possible to reach the Ulster final where the top Tyrone players are expected to provide stiff opposition.
