Clones Notes

By Majella Boyd Tue 18th Feb

Club Dinner Dance: was on last Saturday with a fantastic turnout to celebrate our five County titles and our Scór All Ireland Success.  We launched the DVD “5 County Titles and an All Ireland Success”, which commemorates this fantastic achievement which highlights of all the victories, Colm Kirke’s performance in Derry as well as other extra’s including the Micheál O’Muircheartaigh commentary.  These are available from Joanne for €15.  Players of the year received their awards from All Star Conor McManus, award recipients as follows: U12’s Jamie McQuillan & Jenny Freeman, U14’s Declan Óg & Daniel Connolly, U16’s Daragh McDermott, Minor James Mealiff, Reserve Daragh Graham, Senior Micheál Treanor.  Special awards went to Colm Kirke for his achievements in Scór, Fintan Kelly in recognition of his and the County team’s unforgettable successes this year, Joanne Reihill in County Juvenile Officer of the year.   Eugene Hamill was there to photograph the occasion and these pictures are ready and you can contact Eugene or Joanne.

Dan’s Tournament: takes place this coming Sunday the 23rd.  the first game throw’s in at 2pm with Aghabog taking on Currin, at 3pm it’s the turn of Killeevan and Clones with the final at 4pm.  This is always a great tournament and evidence of the winter training.

Referees training course taking place in March, anybody interested talk to Kevin.  We’re well represented at Juvenile level but really we do need senior referees so if you’re interested at all, don’t hesitate.

Busy Weekend: In a packed schedule last weekend, the Under-21’s defence of the Shamrock Cup continued with a must win game against Tyrone, they did well to be just a point down playing into the wind in the first half, but unable to capitalise on their wind advantage in the second half they lost out on a place in the final.  The championship starts in a couple of weeks for the lads with a first round game against Down.  Monaghan Ladies travelled to Cork in a repeat of their senior All Ireland final last year when we were heartbreakingly beaten by the narrowest of margins. In a great game Monaghan came out comfortably on top.  It’s fantastic for our club to be involved with players on these teams. Well done to David Freeman, Anita Newell and Marion Shiels last weekend.

Seniors: continues on Sunday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s, with the development still under construction there are different locations, stay tuned.  New management of Mickey Slowey, Donal Quigley and Gerry Reihill continue to put the lads through their paces, with the evenings now getting longer spring football is around the corner and we’re very excited about that.

Under 14 training continues every Tuesday in Killevan.  Remember that mouth guards are now compulsory for every player, training and games.

Membership:  Membership rates will remain unchanged at €10 for ordinary members (Family €25 – Adult Player €20 – Juvenile €5) and can be paid to Tom Kelly or any executive member. It’s important that ALL players pay their membership as soon as possible otherwise you will not be covered under the GAA Insurance Scheme.  We would encourage existing club members to renew their subscriptions as soon as possible and we would sincerely welcome any newcomers wishing to join.

Deepest Sympathy: to the families of the recently deceased Dessie McCabe O’Neill Park, Pat Grue O’Neill Park, Noel Allen England & Doreen McCusker O’Neill Park.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anam dílise.

Draw will take place in Cuildarach, we’d encourage as many players and members as possible to sell and buy tickets as this is a very important revenue stream for the club which pays for buses, training gear and predominantly goes to support our juveniles.  Your support as ever is appreciated.
