Club Dinner Dance: is on this Saturday February 15th, tickets are now widely available through the secretary, members of the senior team, the executive and SuperValu. Ticket price this year is €25; this is great value for a three course meal, along with the variety of entertainment on the night including a special mystery guest, Five County titles and an All Ireland Success to celebrate.
Congratulations to Truagh Gaels on their All Ireland Success on Sunday. A fantastic performance and great ambassadors for the game in Monaghan, we’re glad we’ll not be playing against All Ireland champions this year, although (tongue in cheek) the record does show that we beat Truagh in Clones. All credit to them, they’ve set the bar very high indeed for the rest of us. Enjoy your victory and let the good times continue to roll for football in Monaghan.
Busy Weekend: In a packed schedule last weekend, Monaghan’s senior men were in National League action against Meath, showing no side effects from the draw in Esker last weekend Monaghan had the scoring boots on, with Fintan managing to score form corner-back. Monaghan dealt comfortably with anything Meath brought to Clones. Monaghan’s recent record against Meath is excellent, no matter if it’s Croke Park or St. Tiarnach’s Pk the result is the same, a comprehensive win. Next week we renew rivalry with Donegal and having won our last encounter, we’ll be hoping for a similar result and continue to put points on the board. The Under-21s defence of the Shamrock Cup, ended with a close defeat by Antrim. A good win for the Monaghan Ladies against Laois and we barely had time to draw breath. It’s fantastic for our club to be involved with players on all three teams. Well done to Fintan Kelly, Anita Newell, Marion Shiels and David Freeman last weekend. Muineachain ABU.
Seniors: are back training on Sunday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s, with the development still under construction there are different locations, stay tuned. New management of Mickey Slowey, Donal Quigley and Gerry Reihill continue to put the lads through their paces, with the evenings now getting longer spring football is around the corner and we’re very excited about that. I’m sure all the leg work on the back steps will stand to the lads, for the younger lads who didn’t realise Gerry’s favourite movie moment is Sly Stallone and those famous steps in Philadelphia.
Under 14 training continues every Tuesday in Killevan. Remember that mouth guards are now compulsory for every player, training and games.
Juvenile Coaches: We are currently in the process of assigning coaches to underage teams; anyone interested can contact our coaching office Phelim MacElwain. Training will be provided for new coaches.
Coaching: Monaghan Coaching & Games development will be running a series of courses and workshops over the coming months that will cater for every coach within the club. There is a number of foundation, level 1 and level 2 courses pencilled in throughout February and March, perfect for our new coaches and up skilling our existing coaches, these are a pre requisite for all our coaches and are a ‘must have! Not a nice to have’. So get your diaries out and dates picked, contact Phelim as early as possible to secure your place.
Membership: Membership rates will remain unchanged at €10 for ordinary members (Family €25 – Adult Player €20 – Juvenile €5) and can be paid to Tom Kelly or any executive member. It’s important that ALL players pay their membership as soon as possible otherwise you will not be covered under the GAA Insurance Scheme. We would encourage existing club members to renew their subscriptions as soon as possible and we would sincerely welcome any newcomers wishing to join.
