Clones Notes

Best of Luck to Gaeil Tríucha in their All Ireland final game on Sunday. Ádh mór gasúraí.

National League:  things got off to a flyer in Esker Park on Saturday and whilst it’s disappointing to come away with the solitary point after being seven points to the good, there are a lot of positives to take from the game.  It set’s things up nicely for Sunday against Meath a team we’ve a very good home record against.  They have their tails up however after a very decent start and have been knocking in some very high scores.  Tickets are now on sale in SuperValu; this year anyone who buys their ticket in the days running up to the game can get it for €10, match day price will be €15.  Volunteers are required with for work in the field on Sunday, this work is not often or strenuous. Please report your interest to Secretary Kevin Lynch.

Club Dinner Dance: this year is on February 15th, tickets are now available through the secretary, members of the senior team and the executive.  Ticket price this year is €25; this is great value for a three course meal, along with the variety of entertainment on the night including a special mystery guest.

Well done to David Freeman and the Monaghan U21 team who beat Louth in the first round of the league on Monday, in Cloghan by three points.  David was more than value for his place and scored seven points.  It’s great to see Dev show his talents at county level and we wish him and the team continued success.

Congratulations Well done to Largy College U19’s on beating Newry SRC in the Ulster Vocational Schools Markey Cup last Friday in Silver bridge Armagh. This team is made up of players from all the neighbouring Clubs but predominantly Clones.  Going in at half time three points down the lads showed great spirit and determination to hold Newry to five points in the second half and came out comfortable winners, Largy 5:11 Newry 3:10. Well done lads and continued success.

Under 14 training began last Tuesday in Killevan and continues next Tuesday.

Seniors: Training began for the lads on Sunday and there was a fantastic turnout with 31 players turning out.  The success of our juveniles, county team and Largy college teams added to the enthusiasm which was palpable.  New management of Mickey Slowey, Donal Quigley and Gerry Reihill put the lads through their paces, with the evenings getting longer the thoughts of spring football come to mind and we’re all very excited about that.  Training continues every Wednesday and Sunday.

Juvenile Coaches: We are currently in the process of assigning coaches to underage teams, anyone interested can contact Joanne.  Training will be provided for new coaches.

Coaching:  Monaghan Coaching & Games development will be running a series of courses and workshops over the coming months that will cater for every coach within the club. There is a number of foundation, level 1 and level 2 courses pencilled in throughout February and March, perfect for our new coaches and up skilling our existing coaches, these are a pre requisite for all our coaches and are a ‘must have! Not a nice to have’. So get your diaries out and dates picked, contact Phelim as early as possible to secure your place.

Membership:  Membership rates will remain unchanged at €10 for ordinary members (Family €25 – Adult Player €20 – Juvenile €5) and can be paid to Tom Kelly or any executive member. It’s important that ALL players pay their membership as soon as possible otherwise you will not be covered under the GAA Insurance Scheme.  We would encourage existing club members to renew their subscriptions as soon as possible and we would sincerely welcome any newcomers wishing to join.

Lotto: Numbers drawn on the 3rd of February 7,9,21&29 Jackpot €11,700. NO WINNER- Lucky Dip winners Daniel&Joanne Newbliss, Colin McCaughey Clones, Sean McGovern Millbrook, Lisa McMahon O’Neill Park, Damien Reilly Newbliss. Sellers Prize Packie Willies- next weeks Jackpot €11,800. Draw will take place in Packie Willies, we’d encourage as many players and members as possible to sell and buy tickets as this is a very important revenue stream for the club which pays for buses, training gear and predominantly goes to support our juveniles. Don’t be like the Cavan man who prayed to God to win the lotto only for the good lord to answer him back “Meet me halfway and buy a ticket”!  Your support as ever is greatly appreciated.
