There were mixed fortunes for Monaghan teams in Sunday’s AIB All-Ireland Club semi-finals. Truagh advanced to the IFC Final with a dramatic 2-10 to 1-9 win over Geraldines of Louth in Crossmaglen. Despite playing against a strong wind in the first half, Truagh changed ends leading by 0-7 to 0-4 and Mark Counihan scored the opening goal two minutes after the restart. Geraldines rallied strongly to draw level late on, but Daniel Finnegan found the net to help Truagh maintain their winning run. They will play Kiltane from Mayo at Croke Park on Sunday, February 9 at 4pm.
There was no luck, however, for Emyvale, who suffered their second All-Ireland JFC semi-final defeat in four years at the hands of Two Mile House from Kildare. Emyvale were only level at half-time (0-6 each), having played with the wind at their backs, and even though Daniel McMahon and Martin McAree found the net in the second half, Two Mile House picked off a series of points to win by the minimum (0-13 to 2-6).
Meanwhile, Truagh’s Ulster Club Under-21 Football Championship quarter-final against Cullyhanna has been rearranged for Sunday, February 16 at 12.30pm in Creggan, Co Antrim.
On the schools’ scene, Ballybay Community College lost their Ulster Vocational Corn Mac Nessa quarter-final against St. Clare’s College, Ballyjamesduff on a scoreline of 5-10 to 3-6 on Tuesday.
