The finest schools ladies footballers from across the province were honoured last weekend as the Kutri Sports Schools All-Star awards were announced. A total of 25 players representing 17 different schools made the selection, the winners receiving their awards at a function in Kelly’s Inn on the 10th January. Our Ladys Castleblayney had the largest representation of any school in the province with three girls receiving the highly prodigious All-Star award. Aoife Duffy (Aughnamullen) Niamh Callan ( Donaghmoyne) and Muireann Atkinson (O’Neill Shamrocks) were selected for the Ulster squad which will now proceed to represent the province in the Post Primary Schools inter-provincial tournament in Mullingar on the 25th January.
The girl’s inclusion comes at a timely boost for the senior ladies panel ahead of their Ulster A Final on Tuesday next the 28th January when they face St Pauls Bessbrook in the final in Crossmaglen at 12.30. The girls tasted success in 2012 at senior C level and again in 2013 at B level, this year the girls are competing at A level for the first time in the school’s history. The girls are on the verge of an historic three in a row.
