Operation Transformation: All members are asked to meet in Smithboro hall tonight (Thursday) at 6.45pm as our club VOLUNTEER/LEADER is being announced, so please come along to show support. Walking then continues every Monday and Thursday at 7pm and every Saturday at 9am. It’s the New Year so it’s time to get motivated again. New members always welcome.
Mouthguards: The GAA recently announced details of the forthcoming national roll-out of the compulsory wearing of mouthguards for all adults for Gaelic football matches and practice sessions from 1st January, 2014. In addition, from 1st January, 2014, this rule will apply to all players at all age grades. The move to make the wearing of mouthguards obligatory reiterates the Association’s long-term commitment to player welfare. Research figures indicate that Ireland has one of the highest rates of sport-related oral injuries in the EU, with one third of all adult dental injuries being sports-related. In many sports such as rugby, the wearing of gumshields is the norm with nearly all Clubs adhering strictly to a ‘no gumshield – no game’ rule. Significantly, if a player refuses to comply he can be sent-off and players will not be covered under the GAA Player Injury Scheme if they are not wearing a mouthguard.
Juvenile Meeting: There will be a meeting held in our clubhouse tomorrow Friday, January 10th at 8pm to finalise selectors for our Juvenile teams for the year ahead. 2013 has been a hugely successful year at underage level and we’ve a lot to build on so it’s important we’ve enough people helping out with these teams. If any member, parent(s) or anybody, just interested in coaching wants to give us a hand this year please come along to the meeting in our clubhouse tomorrow. We need as much help as we can get to make sure our kids develop into the future adult stars of Eire Og GAA Club
Membership: Membership rates for 2014 will remain unchanged at €20 and can be paid to Enda McCluskey. We would encourage existing club members to renew their subscriptions as soon as possible and we would sincerely welcome any newcomers wishing to join.
Speedy Recovery: To club supporter Pat Callaghan who is currently hospitalised in Cavan General Hospital.
