Juvenile Players Celebrate 2013

A great evening of celebration took place in the Community Centre on Sunday evening last when our underage players from under six to under sixteen gathered with their parents for a presentation of medals from 2013. Special guests on the night were current players Conor McManus and Dessie Mone, minor players Aodh Curran and Michael P. O’Dowd as well as former players and mentors Sean Hughes, Brendan Magennis and Benny Mone, together with all the cups and trophies won by our players this year.

Following introductions from Youth Officer Fergal Mone the evening began with the parade of champions and trophies led by Conor McCooey with the under 12 Cup, Conor Molloy carried Conor McManus’s All Star Award, followed by Charlie Mone and Dara Keenan carrying The Cormac McAnallen International Rules Cup. The Martin Donnelly Interprovincial (Railway) Cup was carried in by Ryan Greenan and Ian Walsh, followed by the Anglo Celt Cup carried by Jack Brady and Daniel Boylan with the National League Cup carried by Ben Kelly and Fionnan Brennan. The Ulster Minor Championship cup was carried in by Ruth McKenna and Emer McGlone, while the Minor League Cup was carried by Darragh Brennan and Caolan Keenan.

Following this parade all players were called on stage where medals were presented by Conor, Dessie, Sean, Brendan, Benny, Aodh and Michael P. to the various teams, including the all conquering under 12 squad. This was followed by presentation of Most Improved Player Awards for 2013 which went as follows: Under 12: Paddy Keenan, Under 14: Ronan Boyle, Under16: Ross Lowey and Dean Brennan. The Seamus Finnegan Award for Overall Most Improved Player was made to Dean Brennan. Our All Star Conor McManus then addressed the young players congratulating them and their mentors for their efforts over the past year and he reminded them that success does not always come easily but often at the end of many disappointments, and urged them never to stop trying to better themselves.

Club Chairman Colm Gormley again thanked all juvenile mentors and parents especially Youth Officer Fergal Mone for their work during the year and in organising the presentation night while Fergal finished off thanking all who helped on the night including Gerry McMahon for his sound and music as well as the Ward Family who cooperated so willingly in helping us get the Cormac McAnallen Cup down from Donegal for the evening.

Sympathy

Sympathy extended to Eithne and Pat Murphy on death of Kathleen O’Connor, Castleblayney, a member of the famed McNally family Moys whose members were so involved in the formation of our club a century ago. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a ainm dílis.

A reminder that the annual AGM will take place on Friday, 10th January in the clubrooms at 8pm. All members are asked to make a special effort to attend. Also anyone interested in club affairs in any way are more than welcome.
