On Tuesday 26th November Monaghan Coaching and Games Development organised a secondary school hurling coaching/blitz day. All secondary schools were invited to take part but due to exams and schools busy coming up to Christmas a total of four schools attended. The four schools were Patrician High School Carrickmacross, Inver College Carrickmacross, Castleblaney College and St. Louis Carrickmacross.
On what turned out to be a perfect morning for hurling we had over 100 students participating and getting the opportunity to play hurling. After one hour of coaching we split the group into10 teams and played off a very competitive blitz. It is planned that in early 2014 we will have a 1st/2nd year hurling competition within Monaghan. The format is yet to be decided but it will be planned over the next three weeks.
Monaghan Coaching and Games would like to thank Ger Gribben, The Camogie Regional Development Co-Ordinator, Aisling Mc Geeney, Jimmy Hayes, David Connolly (Teachers from the schools), Aaron Gernon and Cormac Boylan (TY students from Inver) who all helped out on the day.
Also thanks to the fulltime staff Pauric Dowdall and Ann Mc Kenna who ensured everything ran smoothly.
