After School Hurling Programme

Monaghan Coaching & Games Development ran a successful After School Hurling Programme in Patrician High School which targeted 4th 5th & 6th class students in the south of the county. The programme commenced on Tuesday 5th November and ran for six weeks.  A similar programme will be ran in the north of the county in the new year.

A total of 42 boys participated in the programme and overall we had an average attendance of 33. The boys represented 9 schools from the region. The schools were St Josephs Carrick BNS, Broomfield NS, Annyalla NS, Scoil Rois, Blackstaff NS, Mullaghrafferty NS, Loughmourne NS, Castleblaney BNS and Inniskeen NS.

Over the 6 weeks the lads got plenty of hurling and each night with the main focus being on skill Development & small sided games.

Going forward with this group the plan will be to deliver coaching sessions to them over the mid term & Summer holidays. Also these players will get the opportunity to play at half time in one of Monaghan`s National Hurling League games in early 2014.

Monaghan coaching and games would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who dropped the lads in and out each evening. Also to Patrician High School for the use of their top class facilities. And finally to our coaches Pauric Dowdall and Colin Malone who led the programme.

Indoor Hurling League

On Wednesday last we saw the annual Indoor Hurling come to an end after 3 weeks of brilliant hurling in the Phoenix Centre, Carrick. Over the 3 weeks over 120 young players got the chance to play in what was a very entertaining and close fought league. In all we had 9 schools taking part Annalitten NS, Annyalla Ns, Blackstaff NS, St Josephs Carrick BNS, Castleblaney BNS, Inniskeen NS, Latton NS, Loughmourne and Mullaghrafferty NS.

A special word of thanks must go to our referees who came from Patrician High School and Inver College; they are Ronan Finnegan & Stephen O Hanlon Patrician and Aaron Gernon & Cormac Boylan Inver. Also a big thank you to all the schools for taking part and making the league the success it was. Finally to thank our Games Promotion Officer Pauric Dowdall for organising the league.
