Round-up (November 3)

By cshalvey Tue 5th Nov

Two of Monaghan’s three representatives had wins in Sunday’s Ulster club quarter-finals. Scotstown were edged out by Ballinderry in the SFC at Clones. The Monaghan champions led by a point at half-time and they went on to go four clear in the second half, but a goal by substitute Darren Conway turned the tide in favour of the Derry men, who won it with a late point by Ryan Bell. The curtain-raiser at St. Tiernach’s Park saw Emyvale cruise through to the Ulster Club JFC semi-finals with victory over another Derry side, Ardmore. With Ryan McAnespie, Daniel McMahon and Daithí Colton in fine form in attack, Emyvale led by 11 points by the end of the first half and even though Ardmore rallied after the restart, the north-Monaghan men retook the initiative to eventually have 14 points to spare. Their neighbours Truagh booked an Ulster Club IFC semi-final place with a six-point win over Down’s Drumgath. Goals by Christopher McKenna and Niall Coyle were the crucial scores for Truagh.

Eurotech

Seán McDermotts secured a return to the intermediate ranks when they ran out eight-point winners in a high-scoring Eurotech Junior Football League Final against Oram in Drumhowan on Sunday.

Credit-Union-Websize

Magheracloone will defend their Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League in next Sunday’s final against county champions Scotstown. The Mitchells finished strongly to win their semi-final away to Monaghan Harps on Sunday. Despite conceding the game’s only goal to Neil McAdam early on, Magheracloone advanced to another final, with Damien Freeman scoring nine of their 18 points.

The success continues to roll, meanwhile, for Donaghmoyne ladies, who won the Monaghan league title when they beat Emyvale.
