By cshalvey Mon 18th Nov

Sunday was a very successful day for Monaghan, with three clubs booking places in finals. Truagh are in the AIB Ulster Club Intermediate Football Championship Final after they proved far too strong for Derry side Foreglen in Omagh. Goals by Damian McRory and Mark Counihan had Truagh in charge by the 20-minute mark and they never looked back, with seven players contributing to their 2-10 total from play. Emyvale needed a string of saves by goalkeeper Gerard McCaffrey to stay on terms with Armagh champions Annaghmore in their AIB Ulster Club Junior Football Championship semi-final, but they kicked the last seven points to pull away. Ryan McAnespie, who opened the scoring with a first-minute goal, finished with 1-5 from play to lead Emyvale through to their second provincial final. The deciders will both be played at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh on Saturday, November 30. Emyvale start proceedings against Tyrone’s Killeeshil at 6pm, with Truagh also up against Tyrone opposition, Eskra, at 7.45pm.

Donaghmoyne are now just one win away from retaining the All-Ireland Ladies Club Senior Football Championship after their comfortable semi-final win over The Banner from Clare. Cathriona McConnell top-scored with 1-9 and Niamh Callan also found the net as Donaghmoyne set up a showdown with Carnacon on December 1, when the Monaghan and Ulster champions will be attempting to join the Mayo side on four titles.

Wednesday saw the county vocational schools team cruise to victory in their Ulster quarter-final. Stephen McCabe scored a hat-trick for a dominant Monaghan, who also had goals from Seán McMahon, Eugene McGeough and Dermot Gleeson in a one-sided game. Monaghan now play Cavan in Clones on Friday morning.
