Currin won intermediate honours for the first time in their history when they finished strongly to edge out Truagh in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League Final in Scotstown on Sunday. Truagh were well worth their three-point half-time lead (0-8 to 0-5), by which time they would have been well clear but for some poor finishing. The championship winners, who are in the Ulster IFC Final this Saturday, moved six up after the restart thanks to points by Eoghan Kelly, Neil McRory and top scorer Daniel McKenna, but Jack McCarron and Philip O’Callaghan kept Currin in contention. McCarron scored the only goal to close the gap to a point 12 minutes from time and Currin took heart from that, going on to snatch a dramatic victory with a brace of coolly-taken frees by McCarron late on.
