Carrickmacross and Donaghmoyne both completed minor football doubles on Saturday. Goals by Kevin O’Hanlon and Jamie Gartlan helped Carrick take a big lead against Monaghan Harps in the GRM Minor Football League Division One Final on Saturday and they were 2-9 to 0-1 up early in the second half. Dónal McCarthy, Evan Morahan and Kevin Loughran hit the net to bring the Harps right back into it, but Carrick held on to add the league to their championship victory.
Donaghmoyne came from behind to beat Killanny in the MFL Division Two Final. Killanny were a point up at the end of a low-scoring first half, but they could only manage another point in a second half where they had two men sent off, while a David Garland-inspired Donaghmoyne found the net three times to turn the game around.
Monaghan Harps and Magheracloone will meet in next Sunday’s Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League semi-final after the last round of games on Sunday. Magheracloone had to withstand a late comeback from Latton to hang on for a draw, which saw them take third place, while the Harps secured home advantage when they came from behind to eventually win comfortably in Doohamlet. Ballybay, Rockcorry and Carrickmacross conceded to Scotstown, Clontibret and Castleblayney.
Donaghmoyne completed the semi-final line-up of the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League when they edged out Corduff on Sunday. Donaghmoyne were eight points down after playing against the wind in the first half, but they rallied after the restart to win by a point and kill off Corduff’s chances of qualifying. Goals by Daniel and Seán McKenna saw table-toppers and championship winners Truagh get the better of Inniskeen, while Cremartin eased to victory against Drumhowan and Clones and Currin got the points from Tyholland and Aughnamullen. The semi-finals will be played on November 10, with Truagh and Currin having home advantage against Donaghmoyne and Inniskeen respectively.
Donaghmoyne’s senior ladies made no mistake at the second time of asking when they cruised to victory in the Ulster Club Ladies Senior Football Championship Final Replay against Termon on Saturday. The Monaghan champions led by 1-5 to 1-2 at half-time and they put the Donegal side to the sword in the second half to win their third consecutive provincial title.
There was no luck, however, for Clontibret’s minor hurlers, who lost their Ulster first-round game against Fermanagh’s Lisbellaw.
