ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
22nd October 2013
Deepest Sympathy
On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Liz Carroll and members of the Bates family on the sudden passing of Tommy Bates, (Latton). Tommy was a legend in Monaghan GAA circles and will definitely be remembered as a gentleman who contributed hugely to his club, Latton O’Rahilly’s and the Gaelic Athletic Association. I would also like to offer our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late Gerry McDermott, Rockcorry. May both their gentle souls rest in peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
Drumlin Credit Union SFL
Our senior team played their penultimate game in the Drumlin Credit Union senior football league when they entertained Ballybay at Pairc Naomh Mhuire last Saturday 19th October and they fully deserved a share of the spoils after trailing by 0-7 to 3-5 entering the final twenty minutes. As the final score-line suggests the game was end to end as both teams played a free-flowing and exciting brand of football where no quarter was asked or given. The lads showed spirit in abundance and I know clichés are often and easily used, but for grit, determination and a never say die attitude the lads once again called upon all their resilience and courage to produce a gutsy fight-back in a tension-filled finish, where I imagine the nerves of both sets of supporters were put through the shredder during the closing stages, as the game ended in a draw Rockcorry 0-15 Ballybay 3-6 and ultimately I think it was a fair result as neither team deserved to lose this highly entertaining encounter. Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report and to view a selection of action photographs from the encounter.

Charity Beard Shave
Wow and double WOW…what a birthday party! I think I can say safely that it was a truly an amazing night and everyone had a blast and firstly I would like to direct massive praise to Anthony Tate and his family for deciding to use his 40th birthday to raise money for two charities. It was something different and a fun challenge that raised many smiles and provided plenty of entertainment on the night and I think it was a really honourable and wonderful gesture by Anthony. The thing is a party or an event like that doesn’t just happen without the dedication and hard work of a whole lot of people and a massive well-done to everyone that helped out in any way and fair-play to the lads Anthony Tate, Martin Carroll, Dwayne Rooney & Aidan Sheridan for not shaving for the past two months and for getting their magnificent beards shaved all for a good cause. Just when we thought the shaving was all over further money was raised when people made donations to get Pauric Sherry (Maple Bar) up on the barber’s chair and well done to him for volunteering (or should I say gently pushed!) and making the brave decision to get his beard shaved. As Anthony highlighted it was a night to show you care and to raise money for two worthwhile charities namely the Irish Heart Foundation and the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. The generosity of people was tremendous and as a result a significant sum of money was raised and when all donations and sponsorship money is collected the final amount will be advised. It was a huge success and I once again well done to Anthony and his family and friends for organising the event and well-done to all the lads and everyone who went along to lend their support.
Bosco Carroll Memorial Cup
This Saturday 26th October the club will be hosting an under 12 tournament in memory of my father, Bosco Carroll. This year our under 12 footballers will compete for the memorial cup when they take on the current holders Latton and the match will take place at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 2.00pm. Due to the recent inclement weather and pitch conditions please keep a watcheye on our website www.rockcorrygaa.ie or our social media pages, Facebook & Twitter, for all the up to date information concerning the match.
Scór Competitions
A massive well done to Ceile Farrell who won the Solo Singing in last Friday night’s Score Spraoi competition held in Threemilehouse. Other participants included Oisin Lynch who delivered a wonderful recitation and Caoimhe McGorman, Ellen Flynn, Kerri Flynn and Alan Markey performed extremely well in the Instrumental Group category and gave a solid performance against stiff competition from other National Schools. On behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to congratulate all participants and we can look forward with great anticipation to the Scor na nOg semi-finals that will take place in Tullycorbet on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November and the final is scheduled in Clontibret on Friday 29th November.

Team Panels will be presented with their Championship and League medals on the night. Sunday 21st July last was one of the greatest and most memorable days in Monaghan GAA history. Monaghan Senior Footballers and the Minor Footballers success was a magnificent achievement along with the appearance of the Monaghan 1988 winning team. It was a fantastic day to see three Monaghan teams holding centre stage in Saint Tiarnachs Park Clones, something that made every Monaghan Gael very proud. They are requesting that each club in Monaghan take a table for this event. Tables will comprise of ten or twelve people and the cost is €75 per person. It is a night for club officers and members to attend to honour the teams that have given us great summer memories.
