ROCKCORRY G.A.A.

CLUB NOTES

15th October 2013

Drumlin Credit Union SFL

Our senior team played Magheracloone in the Drumlin Credit Union senior football league last Saturday 12th October and we were treated to a very competitive match that proved to be an absorbing and pulsating encounter and full of top quality with positive passages of play aplenty and kept the small crowd thrilled. Both sets of players showed admirable determination and wholehearted commitment and the game slipped away from us during a five minute spell just before the break as Magheracloone opened up a sizable lead. The lads put in a tremendous performance and battled bravely to the final whistle and almost pulled off a memorable victory with a late fight-back but Magheracloone held on to emerge with the league spoils.  Full credit to the lads who showed character and spirit in abundance and the club can be proud of the players for their efforts against formidable opposition. They worked their way back into game and played with tremendous courage and skill and finished strongly with a late rally and deserved, at least, a share of the spoils but unfortunately time ran out on our valiant efforts. The final score Rockcorry 1-16 Magheracloone 2-16 Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report and to view a selection of action photographs from the encounter.

Rock Country Night

The public have spoken and the message is loud and clear – Rock Country Night was simply AWESOME.  Once again I’m amazed at the remarkable talent that took part in our Rock Country night, on Friday 11th October, in St. Mary’s Hall. We were promised fun and excitement, we were promised great songs being performed by great singers and wow, they did not disappoint us. The whole night was unbelievable with incredible vocals and performances from all the singers that resulted in a fabulous night of entertainment and laughter. I would like to pay special recognition to the main event organiser Ollie McQuillan who just could not have done more to make the night more enjoyable. Robert Brown the music director and producer was instrumental in his leadership for producing the various backing tracks and giving advice to all the singers and, as always, he kept the crowd going. And of course to all the singers who all willingly put themselves forward in what was a marvellous night. A lot of work went into the night and the production of the CD and the fruits of those labours were very evident and you can buy a copy of the CD entitled “Rock Country Classics, The Platinum Collection” for a very reasonable €10. So please contact any of the singers or send an email to pro.rockcorry.monaghan@gaa.ie or send a text message to 086-1041165 with your details and we will get a copy of this fabulous CD to you as soon as possible.

Charity Beard Shave

They say there’s nothing manlier than facial hair and no matter how much we advance in the equality of the sexes, growing a thick beard is something that only a Man will be able to do! You may have noticed that there are a few hairy looking chaps around the village because they haven’t shaved for the past four weeks and they will be getting their mighty whiskers shaved this weekend all in the name of charity It all takes place this Saturday night, 19th October, in the Maple Bar and the idea started with all-time great Anthony “Tayto” Tate who will be celebrating his 40th birthday this weekend. Along with celebrating the big FOUR ZERO Anthony wanted to do something worthwhile and decided to hold a sponsored beard shave with all proceeds being donated towards two charities, namely the Irish Heart Foundation and the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. Anthony along with, three other brave men, Dwayne Rooney, Martin Carroll and Aidan Sheridan will be going under the razor and will have a nice clean-shaven look for the party. Anthony has decided that instead of receiving presents or birthday gifts he would really appreciate it if you would consider making a donation at the door with all proceeds in aid of the two charities The Irish Heart Foundation and Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. Personally, I think this is a wonderful idea and a really nice gesture by Anthony and his family so please support the lads. They each have sponsored cards and you will also see sponsored cards in local shops and pubs and they would deeply appreciate your support and donations.

Bosco Carroll Memorial Cup

Following on from the success of the Terence Reilly Memorial Shield a couple of weeks ago the club will be holding a four team tournament in memory of my father, Bosco Carroll. It will take place on Saturday 26th October and I will have more details involving teams and times in next week’s club notes.

Wedding Anniversary

On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to extend our warmest congratulations and best wishes to a club greats, Ollie McQuillan and his wife Siobhan who celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this weekend. Well done folks, it’s a wonderful milestone and we hope you enjoy many, many more happy years together.
