Clontibret are Ulster Champions

Clontibret  3 – 12

Loughgiel   3 -3

For the second year in succession , Monaghan has claimed an Ulster title when Clontibret camogie team were victorious in retaining  the Bridie Mc. Meniman  Junior Camogie Club Championship Shield  for the County.  Castleblayney started the trend when they were the first Monaghan team to win an Ulster title in 2012, and on Sunday last Clontibret cruised their way to victory when they defeated favourites  Loughgiel Shamrocks from Antrim.

In front of a huge Clontibret support Marie Greenan opened the score for Clontibret when she converted a free but Loughgiel went on a scoring rampage and within the next  fourteen  minutes had accumulated 2 – 2.  Sinead Mohan  who was in her usual scoring form came back with two points on the trot from play in the 15th and 16th minute and Shauna Finnegan took control and burst through for a goal for the Monaghan side. Both side swapped points with five minutes to go to the break with Michelle Morgan putting her name on a point in the Clontibret end from play.

Loughgiel  got through for a point before Ailbhe Boyle handpassed the ball into the net  for the saffrons just before the half time whistle to leave just a point between them.

Halftime Score   Clontibret 2 -4

                              Loughgiel 2 -3

With the pitch conditions being heavy and  almost waterlogged , Catherine Tomany slotted over a point from play in the first minute of the second half and Loughgiel who would not give in went through the Clontibret defence for a goal a few minutes later . In what was a tit for tat fashion Marie Greenan yet again converted a free, although this was to end the scores for Loughgiel.

The Monaghan side then got to grips with the situation when Sinead Mohan was brought down in the square and Marie Greenan stepped up to convert the penalty. Clontibret hit a medley of scores in the last quarter when Catherine Tomany, Marie Greenan, Shauna Finnegan, Ailbhe Boyle, Eleanor Mc. Quaid and Michelle Morgan all split the posts to claim the Ulster title with a margin of nine points.

To a rapturous applause,Captain Shauna Finnegan accepted the Bridie Mc. Meniman Shield on behalf of the Clontibret side.
