Ulster Hurling Exit

Our Double winning hurlers played Armagh champions Cuchulainns in the Ulster Intermediate Hurling Championship semi final last Sunday in Crossmaglen.

The Grattan’s, who completed the senior hurling double by beating Blaney and Truagh got the first point from a free by captain Ronan Meegan.

Cuchulainn’s got off the mark with a point about 10 minutes in from Christy Coulter, who went on to contribute 2 more points in the first half.

At the interval the score was Inniskeen 0-05 Cuchulainns 0-07.

The Armagh men came out with guns blazing in the second half and replaced Coulter with Paul McKernan. Mc Kernan finished off the Grattan’s hopes by scoring two goals and three points which made 2:10 to 0:5.

Inniskeen in order to stem their Momentum moved new recruit Ciaran McKinley (formally of Loughiel Shamrocks, Antrim) to full forward but it made little impact to the overall picture. We could only contribute one more point in the half thanks to Paul Meegan.

County minor hurler Jamie Dooley replaced Niall Butler, however Butler was later reintroduced and for Trevor Hillard. He then was ordered to the line once more as he received a straight red from Referee Owen Elliott of Antrim for a mistimed tackle.

Final score from Crossmaglen was Inniskeen 0:06 Cuchulainns 2:14.

The Lads and the management team have done themselves, their families and their club proud with some brilliant performances all year and capturing the Monaghan Senior hurling double along the way.

Well done to all involved you have ensured that we will have some well deserved silverware to celebrate in this year’s awards night. Well done again.

IFL (W10 L3 D3 – 23pts)

Our seniors took on Tyholland last Tuesday night in Pairc Grattan under the lights.

It was our first match against Tyholland following our crushing defeat to them in the Championship last month.

The game followed similar lines as we took a good lead into the final Qtr of the contest only to see Tyholland come clawing back at us.

We held out in the end to secure the win (1-15 to 2-10) that sees us finishing a minimum of 2nd or 3rd in this year’s campaign.

Our next fixture is a do or die match against 3rd placed Currin.

We are currently one point ahead of them in 2nd place. A win in Scotshouse next Sat evening will confirm home advantage against them in the semi final.

Alan and the lads have put in a solid campaign this year to date, let’s hope that the painful memories of the championship defeat can push them on for the rest of the year and gain promotion to senior football.

Please come and support the guys.

JFC final

Pairc Grattan was the venue last sat eve for the Junior final replay between Emyvale and Blackhill.

It was a very entertaining game that seen Emyvale run out eventual winners by a score line of 4-09 to 1-09. The 2 opening minute goals by Emyvale proved one step too far for a very courageous Blackhill outfit.

From an internal point of view, I have to commend development officer Pete Meegan and his grounds crew as Pairc Grattan looked superb on the night under the lights.

Also further thanks must to the committee and all Volunteers, young and old who marshaled the shops, BBQ, grounds and roads. You did a terrific job that resulted in all spectators getting out safely and up the road for 9pm on the dot.

Fair play to all involved for your efforts, we are blessed to have you at our disposal.

BEREAVEMENTS:

We extend our belated sincere sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Kevin Mc Keown (SNR) and his family from Magoney on the death of his sister Mary Agnes McKeown Palm Springs Florida.

We won’t forget the contribution Mary Agnes’s nephew Kevin Mc Keown (JNR) made to his club and county.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dhilis.
