HARPS HANDBALL

HARPS REACH ULSTER CLUB FINAL
Bawn and Monaghan were involved in a marvellous Junior Club Semi final on Saturday last in Scotstown.  With total scores deciding the winner from 6 games of 21 points, the difference in the end was a mere 4 points, 112 -108. The performances ranged from outstanding to downright gritty.  Pride of place goes to the outstanding comeback by Eugene Mc Geough in his match against Terry Mc Elvaney to trail by only 4 points overall. The scores here were 21-18, 21-20.
Conor Mc Donnell and Ramunas Ramanauskas increased the Harps lead with close wins over Michael Duffy and Gary Mc Elroy. A feature of this match was the awesome power of Ramunas. Watch out Dessie Keegan!
Bawn fully deserved to win the final match when Michael Clerkin took both games in a gritty encounter with Martin Mc Entee.  The scores here were 21-16, 21-12. Michael’s use of the spin serve and his superior kill shots made all the difference.  However, despite trailing  15-5 in the second game, Martin somehow scraped the aces needed to send the Harps  into the Ulster final.  Both clubs are to be congratulated on a very  determined and sporting display throughout.   A major task awaits the Monaghan club in the final against either Saint Paul’s, Belfast or Brackey, Tyrone.
