St.Tiarnach’s Minors do the DOUBLE: Following on from success against Doohamlet two weeks ago in Scotstown it was an eagerly awaited rematch in Cremartin last Sunday. With both teams hungry for success it was no place for the faint hearted with hefty challenges coming in from both teams. James Mealiff was an unfortunate loss to injury in the game and the following fracas was dealt promptly by the referee who sent players and team management off. This wasn’t what anybody had come to see and has no place in our game. Cian O’Connor joint captain of the team made a massive impact in place of James playing a leaders role. In what was a tight game St Tiarnach’s couldn’t convert their chances and Doohamlet were on top on the scoreboard and at half time led by 0:08 to 0:02. Half time came and a serious team talk was required. James Mealiff did a combination of Lazarus waking from the dead and Peter Canavan’s re-entry for Tyrone in 2005 and started the second half. But this is no one player team and the lads were really under fire from a Doohamlet team that had the bit between their teeth. Leading by 0:12 to 0:02 at one stage there was a sense of inevitability about the result but Goals win matches and with Shaun Cunningham and Cian O’Connor providing these for St. Tiarnachs along with James Morrow saving a penalty at the other end things were looking up for our boys. It cannot be underestimated the determination, character and belief the players have and they started to play some fantastic football in the end grinding out the win St.Tiarnach’s 3:09 Doohamlet 0:14. Team; James Morrow(J.Capt.), Shane Ward, Kevin Reilly, Matthew McElvaney, Ben Daly, James Leonard, James Mealiff, James McElwain, Eoin McQuaid, Shane Slowey, Darek Sviridenka, , Dermot Gleeson, Micheal Tierney. Subs Cian O’Connor(J.Capt.), Shaun Cunningham, Micheal Morgan, Joe Gavin, Corey McAree, Tristan Reavey, Niall Cadden, Darragh McDermott, Jake Reihill, Kevin Sheridan. The management panel of Mickey Tierney, Jimmy Corr, Joe Leonard, Gerry O’Gorman and Seamus Morrow deserve great credit for their efforts all year. The team’s commitment to their clubs and this amalgamation has been immense and they’re ambassadors to everyone.
