Winter Programme – As training falls on Halloween night, the Club have cancelled training for the Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 Boys on Thursday night. The start of the 2014 training season has been extremely encouraging with large numbers attending each age group. The Juvenile Coaching team are extremely positive by the quality of skills being demonstrated by these young players. Training will resume on Thursday 7th of November for the Under 6, 8 and 10’s, while Girls football will continue on Monday nights with the Under 12 Boys returning to training on Tuesday the 5th of November.
Operation TransFAUGHSmation – It was great to see so many people in the field on Sunday morning, not even the heavy shower of rain at 10.30am could deter the walkers and runners from completing their Sunday morning challenge. It was very encouraging to see the beginner runners starting to make the step up that will help them complete the 5K run/walk on December 1st. With this week being Halloween, the group completed their Tuesday evening circuit class as ghosts and ghouls, zombies and witches, which was fun filled and energetic and for Friday evening, Charlene Keenan will take Zumba in the Glencarn, this hour long fusion of cardio, hip hop, salsa and aerobics comes very highly recommended. Next Sunday we will all meet again at St Mary’s Park for walking, running and cycling at 11am.
Supervalu Castleblayney 5K – This week sees the count down to the Supervalu/Castleblayney Faughs 5k race, which will happen on Sunday 1st of December at 2pm. We would encourage as many of you as possible to join in, we welcome everyone as this is one of the great community days in the town Calendar. If you would like you to run the race McMahons Supervalu have a very good leaflet in store which is a guide on how to get you from the couch to walking/running a distance of 5k. We will keep everyone updated each week through the club notes and articles in the Northern Standard and on Facebook. This year we are raising money for St Mary’s Hospital and the Alzheimer’s society, your support really matters to us so we can raise much need funds for these organisations.

Well Done – Last Bank holiday Monday was the day for the 34th Dublin City Marathon. This year saw two new comers Denise Carey and Mark McEntee join the large contingent of Blayney runners to complete the 26 mile course. Denise and Mark took up the marathon challenge after completing Operation TransFAUGHSmation in the last few years and have now achieved another huge milestone. Well done to all the other people from the town who completed the course, special congratulations to our Senior Chairperson Stephen Dignam who completed the course, where does this man get the time or the energy to complete such a task.
