Carrickmacross 1-17 Doohamlet 1-17 (AET) 31/8/13
Even extra-time couldn’t separate Carrickmacross and Doohamlet in this SFC qualifier in Inniskeen on Saturday. A depleted Carrick side were without Peter O’Hanlon and Conor McEnaney, but they led for long spells until a late Colin Walshe goal turned the game in favour of Doohamlet, only for Stephen Gollogly to force extra-time with the final kick. Doohamlet twice threatened to pull clear in the additional 20 minutes, but Carrick pegged them back again. Walshe, Barry McGinn, Greg Duffy and Martin Hughes led the way for Doohamlet, while Gollogly, Niall Loughman, James Conlon and Mark McNally
Carrickmacross made a perfect start with goal by Niall Loughman and a point by Ryan McEnaney, but Mark Murphy and Barry McGinn brought Doohamlet into the game, before Stephen Gollogly restored the three-point gap from a free.
Aaron Lynch added a point for Carrick, but a McGinn free and a Colin Walshe point kept Doohamlet in touch, before Gollogly and McGinn swapped scores from frees. Doohamlet finished the half strongly, with points by Darren Connolly, McGinn and Kevin McArdle edging them ahead for the first time going in at the interval on a scoreline of 0-8 to 1-4.
Loughman had a shot saved by James Casey just after the restart, following a pass by Owen Duffy, before a foul on James Conlon allowed Gollogly to tap over an equalizing 20-metre free. Barry McBennett regained the advantage for Doohamlet, but Conlon, Loughman and a Séamus Mulholland double made for four points in as many minutes for Carrick, who moved four clear when Gollogly converted a 35-metre free for a foul on Lynch.
Carrick needed keeper Andrew O’Rourke to keep them ahead when he denied Jason McElroy, before McGinn ended 15 scoreless minutes for Doohamlet from a brace of frees after fouls on Walshe and Ted Duffy. Declan Finnegan got a point back for Carrick, but Doohamlet drew level in the first added minute when Walshe raced onto a Shane McManus pass to find the net. McManus edged Doohamlet ahead, but Gollogly won and scored a 20-metre free deep into injury-time to level it up at 1-12 each.
Another Gollogly free was the first score of extra-time, but Greg Duffy levelled it up with a fine point, before McGinn tapped over a 13-metre free for a foul on McManus. The county minor added a point from play to double Doohamlet’s lead, but Conlon and Loughman responded to leave it all-square at 1-15 each by half-time in extra-time.
Doohamlet once again gained the initiative in the second period with a point from a 20-metre free by McGinn after a foul on Niall Connolly and a point from play by McManus, following good work by Walshe, but Casey had to be on his toes to save a McEnaney shot as Carrick finished strongly. Gollogly won and scored a 13-metre free to reduce the gap to the minimum once more and Mulholland kicked his third point in the last minute to send the game to a replay, which will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
