Sean’s Notes

Adult team.  Our adult squad on Saturday evening last by virtue of their 1 -7 to 2 -9 victory over Aghabog booked their place in the semi-finals of the junior football league competition. With one round of league fixture to be decided on Saturday evening at 5.45pm it looks very much like our boys will be renewing rivalry with their championship conquerors Blackhill, that is of course if all top four positions remain as they are. The other two clubs in the quest for silverware and more importantly promotion are Killanny and Oram. These semi finals are schedule for Sunday 12th October. But first there is the matter of completing the league programme on Saturday next when Killeevan are visitors to Phairc Sheáin Mhic Dhiarmada.

Under 8/10 Coaching for Under 8’s and 10’s concludes for this season on Friday evening next with a series of mini games, along with presentations and refreshments. Hugh Mc Elvaney of Mc Elvaney Waste & Recycling sponsor of the club’s internal under age coaching and games programme will be on hand to make the presentations. The long association and generous sponsorship of  Mc Elvaney’s with the club is very much appreciated and acknowledged as is the personal involvement of  Hughie in our underage coaching  presentation finale; a function he has been performing since the inception of this programme all of twenty five years ago… .  We would encourage parents and family members to come along and show their encouragement and support for these youngsters. Games commence at 6.45pm sharp, please note the earlier than usual time starting time.  The under 10 blitz scheduled for Clones on Saturday may not now go ahead but details  regarding any deferment or alternative date will be available on Friday evening.

Coaching Course: Parents members and players (adult, minor, U16’s) wishing to become involved in coaching should note that the club are hosting a coaching evening in the complex on Tuesday 15th October commencing at 7.30pm. This session is being conducted by personnel from the County’s Coaching & Development staff and is tailored to coaches involved with the very youngest age groups. As most clubs struggle to have the ratio of coaches to children right at this age level this is an ideal opportunity to pick up the basic essentials now and help your club out by becoming involved when the new season get under way.

Cultural Night:   A reminder that  following the success of our Trad for Trócaire event last year, the club will host another on the 11th October, coinciding with our next monthly session on the 2nd Friday of the month Again, all musicians, singers & dancers are welcomed along for a super night’s entertainment. Refreshments will be served, with spot prizes galore!! And not forgetting all donations for Trócaire will be gratefully received!

Ceili Dancing.  Ceili dancing classes resumes in the Complex next Sunday evening 22nd September from 6.30- 7.30pm. Boys and girls are welcome along and encouraged to attend this hour long session which will continue over the winter months.

Bowls. With the bowling season just around the corner, regular weekly bowling sessions have also resumed in the complex on Thursday nights from 8.00 -10.30 pm. New participants are always welcome.

Totto. The number sequence 2, 6,3,8,5,7,4,1 drawn on Monday night last for a jackpot prize of €10,300 was not correctly forecast. The lucky dip winners were. Mary Mc Connon Killnaclay,Bosco Skeath Monaghan,Aidan Mc Entee Drunaclan,Eugene Connolly Carnbane, Katharine Treanor Mullanacross,Eileen Casey Kieran Togan, PJ & Kay Togan, Michael Mc Quaid Upstairs Downstairs,Mark mc Elroy Annamartin. Next week’s (Week 39) jackpot is €10,400.

Sympathy:   It was with shock and disbelief last week that our club community learned of the death of Aidan Mc Mahon. Aidan was a talented footballer possessing physical strength and two great feet, indeed such was his proficiency in the kicking department that he is the only player yours truly has ever encountered in the Sean’s club not to know whether left or right was weakest, if asked would answer with an impish twinkle and a rascally chuckle “I don’t know. We offer our sincerest sympathy to his heart broken wife Sandra and children, his mother Roseleen, and the Mc Mahon family circle on their inconsolable loss. Go ndeana Dia trocaire ar a anam.
