Drumlin Credit Union SFL

Our senior team made the short journey to O’Rahilly Park last Sunday 1st September to play our neighbours Latton in the Drumlin Credit Union senior football league. As expected the game proved to be an absorbing and pulsating encounter and while we were missing a number of our starting team the lads gave a good account of themselves and put in a tremendous performance but despite their best efforts we came off second best to a stronger Latton outfit who secured the victory on a score-line Latton 1-11 Rockcorry 0-8. This was an exciting and entertaining tussle and everything you would expect from a local derby. On the day Latton were the better balanced team over the hour and perhaps fully deserved the spoils. After the horrible show against Scotstown the previous weekend the lads showed their true character and gave a brave & spirited performance and played with more purpose that sadly, on the day, just fell short. A full match report and a selection of action photographs can be viewed on www.rockcorrygaa.ie

Speedy Recovery

I fear I’m starting to sound like a broken record because once again I find myself conveying, on behalf of the club, our best wishes and wish a speedy recovery to Stephen Lynch who sustained a serious shoulder injury during our clash against Latton last Sunday. Get well soon Stephen and we look forward to seeing you back wearing the green & white jersey as soon as possible.

Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship

We have a big local derby to look forward to in the Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship when we take on our neighbours Latton in the next round. After the recent league game we are well aware that it is a difficult assignment and no doubt Latton will have a number of big guns to add to their team. However, this is a mouth-watering tie, in any man’s language, and will definitely attract a bumper crowd for what hopefully promises to be a thrilling encounter. The game takes place this Friday night, 6th September, at Emyvale and throw-in time is 8.15pm. We look forward to a big turnout of supporters to encourage and cheer on the team. Good luck lads.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Div 2B

The under 12 team will play Fergal O’Hanlon’s in the final of the Shield Cup this Saturday 7th September. The game will take place at Gavan Duffy Park, Monaghan and throw-in time is 1.30pm. On behalf of the club I would like to wish John, Colm and all the players the very best of luck in their endeavours to bring home the silverware and I would encourage all parents and members to show your support on the day and travel to the match and cheer on all the children. Good luck boys and girls.

Go Games Blitz

The next Go Games Blitz, which will be a double blitz for all under 8 and under 10 players, will take place this Saturday 7th September in Latton starting at 10.00am. Just a reminder, all parents / guardians are asked to meet up at the clubrooms to assist with transporting the children to this blitz.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14

There will be no semi-finals so the top two teams will play in the Cup Final while the 3rd and 4th place teams will compete in the Shield Final. Drumhowan and Aghabog finished level on points and have to play-off to decide who goes into the Cup Final to play Killeevan or the Shield Final to play Rockcorry. Possible dates for the finals are Saturday 14th or Saturday 21st September.

Dates for your Dairy

The juvenile committee is busy making plans organizing a couple of underage tournaments. I have been informed that the Terence Reilly Memorial Shield will take place on Saturday 28th September with competing teams including Aghabog, Cootehill, a club from Dublin and our own group of under 10 footballers. With regards to the Bosco Carroll Memorial Cup tournament dates have not yet been formally agreed but watch this space for further details.
