CLUB NOTES
17th September 2013
Charity Climb
Hi folks, this will be my last club notes for a while as I head off to complete my Everest challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation. Over the next couple of weeks, and I’m not exaggerating, I can look forward to no hot relaxing bubble baths, no more indulgence with home comforts or home cooking and definitely no clean sanitary facilities! So the next time I come up with a crazy, dangerous “Eureka” moment you have my permission to slap me in the face and tell me to cop-on! It all seemed a good idea at the beginning of the year and the past nine months have just flashed by and it’s now time to walk the walk (no pun intended) and I’m am starting to feel a little anxious & nervous! But seriously folks, for those that know me, know that my inspiration, motivation and determination to do this challenge is obvious and the reason for embarking on this crazy adventure is to raise money for the Irish Heart Foundation while at the same time raising awareness among people to look after your heart. Heart disease is the number one killer in this country so start by making some simple changes to your lifestyle. For starters quit smoking, eat healthy foods, be more active, limit your alcohol intake and avoid high blood pressure & stress. As they say, it’s never too late to take active steps to look after your heart and the bottom line is – it’s up to you! Finally, I would like to acknowledge and express my gratitude to the many companies & friends for their overwhelming warmth and generosity through-out the year and thank them once again for their kindness and support. If you missed out on the opportunity of sponsoring me and if you still wish to make a donation towards the Irish Heart Foundation then there is still time, as they say every little helps. Oh, and one last thing before I go away, go easy on the stand-in PRO, I’m hoping they will take over come the AGM!
Drumlin Credit Union SFL Fixtures
Due to Magheracloone advancing to round 3B of the Gormley uPVC senior football championship which is to be played this Friday, 20th September our encounter against Magheracloone scheduled for this Saturday 21st September has been postponed and will be
re-arranged. Training continues on Wednesday night at 8pm.
Country Night
If you’re looking for the best darn County & Western music there’s no need to go rushing off to Nashville, Tennessee – or even Nathan Carter because on Friday 11th October “Rock Country” is coming back to town. That’s right folks, lasso up your friends and grab your best bib and tucker and have yourselves a thigh slapping, toe tapping, hand clapping night of fun, fun and fun. Our special guest and Master of Ceremonies will be the legendary Irish country singer Gloria. This night proved very popular last year and it’s easy to see why because once again we have assembled the finest singers from the village and surrounding areas to perform their favourite Country & Western classics. No other night does it like “Rock Country” with great songs performed by great singers and tickets are now on sale for this amazing and mind-blowing show.
To Shave or not to Shave?
One of our leading players and all-time greats Anthony “Tayto” Tate will be celebrating his 40th birthday on Saturday 19th October. Along with celebrating the big FOUR ZERO Anthony wanted to do something meaningful and worthwhile and has decided to go down a different road and raise money for charity by holding a sponsored beard shave with all proceeds being donated towards two charities, namely the Irish Heart Foundation and the Cootehill Community Cancer Support Group. Along with Anthony, three other brave men, Dwayne Rooney, Martin Carroll and Aidan Sheridan have decided to take the plunge and not shave for the next five weeks and they will get their mighty whiskers shaved all for name of charity. Personally, I think this is a really fantastic gesture and I would urge everyone, including family and friends, to get behind this wonderful idea and support the lads. They all have sponsored cards and you will also see sponsored cards in local shops and pubs so please donate whatever you can afford they would really appreciate your support.
Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14 Shield Final
Our opposition in the under 14 Shield Final will be provided by Aghabog and the final takes place this Saturday 21st September in Cremartin and the game had a throw-in time of 11am. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the final so good luck lads do your best and hopefully you will bring home the silverware. In addition, I would really appreciate it if somebody could take their camera and take a few photographs. Show me the photos!
Under 8 Go Games Blitz
Our under 8 footballers travelled to St. Tiernach’s Park, Clones on Saturday 14th September to take part in their last official Go Games Blitz of the year. It was great to see so many youngsters having fun playing their games and developing their football skills and a very enjoyable and exciting day was had by everyone. A committee meeting will take place this Thursday night 19th September in the clubrooms. It starts at 8.15pm and all committee members are requested to attend.
