U16 HL Qtr Final: Inniskeen W/0) Vrs Clontibret, Mon 9th

The 11 aside U12 football team went to Aughnamullen last Saturday to compete in the 1B final against Drumhowan in what we knew would be a very tight game seeing as Drumhowan had twice got the better of us by a point during the year.

Inniskeen started well and finished the first half a point to the good.

As the second half resumed Drumhowan came back as we knew they would and went two points ahead, however the Inniskeen boys held their nerve and got three unanswered points before striking the net.

A very strong finish saw Inniskeen win on a score of 2-12 to 1-6 which to be fair to Drumhowan did not reflect how tight the game was.

Congratulations to the team and mentors on the great win to bring home the silverware, the horns where at full tilt when the boys got back to the village.

U14 Football

The Inniskeen People answered the call and came out in their numbers to support Inniskeen U14 boys take on a much fancied Truagh team in the Division 1 League Semi-Final.

And what a performance was on display from every single player from start to finish.

We flew out of the blocks in the first quarter and raced into a 1-7 to 0-02 lead, with Andrew woods getting the goal and a spread of points from numerous forwards.

In the backs Christopher Hanratty and Harry Monahan were at their best while the half back line were well on top with Dylan Curtis producing his performance of the year.

Gavin Dooley and Seamus Kindlon were also as reliable as ever.

The second quarter was a much closer affair with scores flying in at either end and by half time it was 2-10 to 1-06 in our favour as Andrew contributed with another goal. Ciaran mc Nulty and Aidan woods put in a tireless shift in midfield as both boys pointed from play.

Up front Jack Hoey, Shane Hanratty and Pauric russell worked their socks off and chipped in with vital scores while the inside men of Sean and Andrew Woods were just too much to handle as they gave the Truagh defense all sorts of problems throughout the game.

The game swung swiftly in third quarter as Truagh upped the pressure and got a vital goal to take the game to level scores, as they came in their Droves attack after attack as Shane Martin in goals made some great saves to keep us in it, at times when we were hanging on with just a finger nail.

The Final quarter was a cliff hanger as the game tightened up with both teams nervous to go for it and scores were at a premium but we traded a point each.

Substitutions Dylan mc Ardle and Pauric mc Gahon made a massive impact when introduced, their freshness seemed to energize the rest of the boys and with time up we rallied for one last attack.

In a fantastic team effort the ball was worked down the right hand side by a series of one twos and finally broke into talisman Andrew Woods who worked very hard for a millimeter of space and let fire with his trusty left foot over his right shoulder (Joe Brolly style) over the bar to seal a dramatic win and progress Inniskeen Through to the Division 1 League final.

The final score was Inniskeen 2-13 Truagh 2-12.

The U12 hurlers are competing in the shield final on Saturday in Blackhill against Truagh at 1.40pm .

Please come along and support the next generation of Inniskeen hurlers.

The U16 hurlers are in the championship semi final next Monday against Monaghan in Monaghan at 6pm.

To raise funds for a set of jerseys & skorts for our U8 and U10 camogs the club is organising a Used Clothes Collection on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of September in the Community Centre in Inniskeen between 7pm – 9pm each evening.

This is a great opportunity for you to finally get round to clearing out all those old clothes you have cluttering up your wardrobe and donate them to a worthwhile cause!
