Blayney Hurling Club Notes
The minors played Monaghan Harps/Truagh team in the championship semi-final last Sunday morning . Blayney started off well with some good scores from Aidan Kerr and great defending from Daniel Mc Carthy, Ciaran Mc Nally and Paul Mc Gurgan ,while in the half back line James Carville was working very hard and causing Truagh a lot of problems with his attacking runs forward and at half time the score was Harps /Truagh 5 Blayney 4 . In the second half Blayney started of well with scores from Aidan Kerr and Tony Forde but then the North Monaghan men started to take control of the game and finished the game the more stronger team winning well in the end despite the hard work of Alan Nugent and Ronan Merrick .
Gathering :
The club is holding its Gathering event on Saturday 5 October . Events on the day will include our annual Charity match between the past players and the present with money raised on the day being donated to the Castleblayney Care. Already the past players are putting in some serious training and are looking forward to defending their title. Martin Hanratty and Martin Rafter can be seen out running the roads, Kevin Maloney and Hugh Cullen are putting in a massive effort at Operation TransFAUGHSmation ,while Rory Woods is making the long trip from America and Niall Morgan coming home from England. Also that night there will be presentation meal in the Glencarn were the team that won the championship 25 years ago in 1988 will be honoured with music afterwards. Word has it that Tom Russell has said he is bringing up the Liam Mc Carthy cup when Clare win it on Saturday
Fair Day
The Hurling Club will be Setting up a Stall out side Terry Connolly’s Old Shop.Please come along and support the Fair Day and visit us on the Stall where we hope to have light refreshments on sale.
High Nellie Workshop
