Inniskeen finished strongly to edge out Castleblayney in the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling Championship Final last Saturday (see match report). Meanwhile, Monaghan Harps were convincing winners in the shield final against Carrickmacross.
The Grattans followed up their championship success with a comfortable defeat of Monaghan Harps in the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling League on Tuesday. Thursday saw Castleblayney bounce back from their championship final defeat to ease past Truagh, while Clontibret conceded to Carrickmacross.
Seán McDermotts continued their impressive run through the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship when they eased past Aghabog last Friday to qualify for the semi-finals. A second-quarter blitz saw the Seáns lead by 3-10 to 1-0 and they went on to win by 4-11 to 1-5, with the goals coming from James Treanor (two), David McEntee and Noel Rice.
Toome kept their hopes alive with a dramatic extra-time win over Killanny in their replay on Sunday. Gary Wilson and Niall Finnegan got the all-important goals that won it for Toome.
Goals by Michael Flannery and Rory Sherry helped Emyvale to a surprisingly easy win over Donaghmoyne in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 2A Final last Friday.
Doohamlet took a major step towards safety in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League when a late point from county minor Barry McGinn gave them a narrow win over Carrickmacross last Saturday. Clontibret continued their good form with a convincing win in Latton on Sunday. They led by 1-7 to 0-2 at half-time and they added a second major just after the restart to put the result beyond doubt. League leaders Scotstown could afford to make several changes and still edge out championship opponents Magheracloone. Shane Carey, who has recently returned from spending the summer in the USA, converted a penalty early on his way to a tally of 1-4 and despite having James Hamill sent off and falling behind after a string of scores from Tommy Freeman and Gavin Doogan, Scotstown came back to snatch the two points. Monaghan Harps stayed in touch when they beat Ballybay at home. An Emmett McArdle goal was cancelled out by the accuracy of Paul Finlay and Thomas Kerr as the sides went in level at half-time, before the Harps gained the upper hand in the final quarter. Castleblayney returned to winning ways with a comfortable win away to Rockcorry. Blayney led by eight points at half-time and a blitz of 1-5 in the early stages of the second half made the game safe.
Truagh stayed top of the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League with a convincing win in Tyholland, with Daniel Finnegan (twice), Colm McRory and Christopher McKenna finding the net. A goal by Cian O’Connor separated Clones from Inniskeen, while a brace from sub Paddy McNally gave Cremartin victory in Corduff and Donaghmoyne got the better of Currin.
Blackhill moved top of the Eurotech Junior Football League when they beat their nearest challengers Emyvale on Sunday, while Seán McDermotts were convincing winners against Scotstown on Tuesday.
