Monaghan qualified for the TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Championship semi-finals with a comprehensive win over Laois in Saturday’s quarter-final at Breffni Park. Player of the Match Caoimhe Mohan scored 2-6, while Cathriona McConnell added nine points and Cora Courtney and Yvonne Connell also found the net to lead Monaghan to the easiest of wins on a scoreline of 4-21 to 0-4.
An injury-time goal by Hugh Malone gave county champions Ballybay the most dramatic of wins over local rivals Latton in the Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship on Sunday, while the other game in Inniskeen saw Conor McManus hit 1-6 to lead Clontibret past Castleblayney. Saturday’s double-header in Clontibret brought wins for Scotstown and Monaghan Harps at the expense of Magheracloone and Doohamlet respectively.
Clones and Currin made winning starts in the McGuigan Builders Intermediate Football Championship over the weekend. David Freeman top-scored with 0-5 as Clones had a good win over Inniskeen on Friday, while Currin eased past Drumhowan on Sunday, with each of their county men – Stephen Smyth, Jack McCarron and Dick Clerkin – scoring goals.
Blackhill and Oram completed the semi-final line-up for the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship with wins over the weekend. Seven Colin Woods points and a brace of goals by Darren Woods led Blackhill past Toome on Friday, while a first-minute major by Aaron Molloy set the tone for Oram’s defeat of Aghabog.
Aughnamullen completed a double when they won the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division 2B Final against Seán McDermotts on Friday. Mark McArdle scored 2-2 and Niall Keenan came off the bench to kick five points from play for the winners.
Éire Óg are through to the RFL Division Three Final after their win over Clontibret on Monday evening.
Rockcorry gained a first-ever win in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League away to Carrickmacross on Sunday. Goals by Noel Carroll, Paul McKeown and Anthony Tate had Rock ahead by 3-6 to 0-4 at half-time and despite a second-half rally from Carrick, the senior newcomers held on to win by two points.
Scotstown came from behind to maintain their position at the top on Wednesday. A Shane Smyth goal had Monaghan Harps on the front foot, but Kieran Hughes came on to score 2-3 and Ross McKenna also found the net to help Scotstown turn the game around and win by a point. Ballybay edged out Clontibret, with Paul Finlay scoring the only goal and the visitors failing to find the net from two penalties. Magheracloone are still third after they edged out Castleblayney, while Latton eased past Carrickmacross and Doohamlet saw off Rockcorry.
Truagh are now six points clear at the top of the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League after they had two wins in the last few days. Goals by Christopher McKenna and Colm McRory saw the north-Monaghan men come from behind to beat Corduff on Sunday, before they put Currin to the sword on Wednesday. Tyholland edged out Donaghmoyne on Sunday, but they lost out to Cremartin on Wednesday, while Donaghmoyne bounced back to beat Aughnamullen. A late point from Darragh Holland helped Clones pip Drumhowan and the other game saw Corduff and Inniskeen play out a high-scoring draw.
Blackhill’s lead in the Eurotech Junior Football League is three points after they drew with upcoming championship semi-final opponents Seán McDermotts on Wednesday, while there is now a three-way tie for second place. Oram defeated Toome on Wednesday to join Emyvale on 18 points, while Killanny are on the same number after they had two wins in a row. They recovered from a poor start to beat 14-man Seán McDermotts with a late goal on Sunday, before easing to victory against Éire Óg on Wednesday. Sunday’s other game saw Scotstown and Killeevan finish all-square for the second time this year.
